I'm split between my choices need some help

Okay well i plopped myself into the eclipse my friend has that i planned to buy only to realize that it's got really tight leg room, even with the seat pulled back. and if i drive comfortably there is basically no room to sit in the back. are all eclipses like that? i have my taurus and i like to lean my seat a little back and give myself some leg room, but the eclipse seems a bit cramped.

well back to my topic.

I was wondering that if the eclipse really is that cramped what's a nice car similar to it that has enough leg room, (im considering a galant atm).

here is my dilemma.

I'm all for making a car fast but im also very partial to having comfort. help me decide on what your opinion is on my choices. (this really isn't going to be a deciding factor, im just wondering on some opinions from people i trust)

Option 1:

1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse RS

Drop a nice turbo in it

Attach the Zen body kit minus the side skirts

Throw in an in dash dvd player with surround sound that can be adapted to a console system (i.e. xbox)

Put on a new suspension.

New Exhaust.

Option 2:

Any kind of Econoline/Astrovan

Gut out the entire interior and replace it with some nice either shag or soft carpeting.

Full Surround Sound System with 2-4 12" Subs mounted in the back behind the only row of seats.

tv mounted in with a console system hooked up to it.

See if i can throw a cherry bomb exhaust on it.

Basically turn the van into my own driveable chill out spot. (i know weird but im one of the types of people who rather enjoy chilling in their cars.)

Thanks in advance for any opinions

eclipes might as well be 2 seaters.. esp. my spyder..
but as the same time what fun will the van be?
i like the eclispe idea but.. some of the plans are weird.. the body of eclipses 97+ are so nice and no need to change.. just slam, and turboing a NA eclipse imo is more money then its worth... the only NA eclipse thats somewhat nice imo is the OZ edition.

what exactly is an NA eclipse? ive always been confused about that. the reason i'd throw on the zen kit is bc the friend i have completely scratched the shiza out of his bumper and i thought it might as well be easier to throw some simple body kit on and make it a little different.

the fun the van would be is to make it anywhere i go i can just chill in the back or have my friends chill in the back. i love taking road trips and i'd love to give myself a break from driving, let one of my friends take over and i hop in the back and play some counter strike or watch a movie. even when im at school or work ill take my break out in my car just sitting and chilling while listening to music or the sound of the engine or with the a/c blasting.

N/A means non turbo engine
basicly gona cost you alot more money to turbo then a allready turbo model eclipse and less likely of engine gettin phukd once you turbo it but a dsm is a dsm so dont depend on this car of being very reliable

as for the back seats...behind the drivers seat is horrible...no leg room at all, and i'm not even tall 5' 10". the passenger seat isn't as bad...but i don't care because 90% of the time i only have 1 passenger anyway, plus i'm driving so i can care less whether they are comfortable or not.

i wouldn't turbo the n/a motor...it's just not cost effective. you'll end up blowing up the motor in no time they aren't built for boost from the factory which puts a lot of stress on your bottom end, plus at the same price you can get a 2g pos n/a, you can get a nice 1g awd turbo. plus think about the body kit....you gotta put it on there...get it painted and whatnot...paint, if you do it right (not maaco) will cost you a little bit of money.

there are a few 1g's on here that are for sale that would make a great car to drive...but i would study up on them and try to learn about them more before you bought one....learn what tends to break...basically strong points and weak points

1ga are nice and all but i like the way the 2gs look the best. thanks for summing it up for me. i never realized that putting a turbo in a N/A eclipse would cause those problems, lol deff. glad that i asked first.

good point about the body kit as well...i keep forgetting to factor in the money for the paintjob and bodywork. his car is red and i want black, seems like thats anywhere from 3-5 grand just making it the color i want.

the cop factor is very true, plus i realized im 95% more likely not to speed in it if im comfortable lol.

i've been looking at astros and econolines and they seem really easy to customize. I was thinking something along the lines of a second battery, a tv, computer hooked up with internet regardless of positioning (its a chip through verizon and costs like 30 a month) and an xbox or somethign hooked up to the tv through surround sound. that way i can hear the games im playing awesomely lol.

though do you know of any type of van seats that'll have somewhat of a recliner effect as far as the bottom part of the seat flipping up after pulling the lever on the side of the chair?

my plan was to take out the middle seat anyway and try reupholstering that as a practice then saving myself from mistakes when i redo the interior.

that's actually a great alternative for the eclipse, thanks so much i cant believe i overlooked that. i was thinking a mirage, diamonte, or a galant, how the hell did i miss the 3000gt.

though aren't they usually hard to come by? i know in N New Jersey where i'm at its very hard to find one for sale that isn't covered in rust or missing all the tires and sitting in the junkyard with half a stripped motor.

you can easily rig a lazy boy in them vans and a couch or love seat depending on the room. Im not sure how much room you'll need but its pretty cost effective to considering you could probably find some on the side of the road that just got put out but i wouldn't take any if it rained that week lol

I'm from NNJ as well and I found my vr4 on autotrader, it was in bordentown. I see some decent vr4's around on autotrader or if anything you can search on 3si.

do you think 2 lazy boys would fit side by side in the back?

also i was thinking something like a turtle bucket chair or bean bags in the middle of the floor for anyone that wants to sit closer to the tv.

also, do you think their is a way to have the windows in the back to open up enough to be able let a lot more air in?

Youd have to measure that
tape measurer pretty simple but im thinking you could
about the windows im not sure but i dont think it would be to hard to figure out some way to rig them to open, maybe even put in an a/c unit lol
anythings possible with imagination and a creative mind

lol i love the smart assness i kinda brought it upon myself lol. i was more likely trying to get an idea of anyone who might've known someone who did something close.

hahah it has an a/c unit i just like having my windows open and it'd be cool to have the back windows somehow slide down or fold up or something instead of the same old pop out to the side.

i guess ill have to go shop around and measure like you said.
