you dont know about the L glass, son.

sickness though, its a damn expensive lens but you'll literally keep it for forever and find that its the go to lens for 90% of anything action related. i heart my nikon 80-200 f2.8 AF-S.

Hahah yea the L is the pimps pimp of canon glass. it owns all. hahaha.
Well if the reviews are accurate I'm sure this will be my default lens for most of my shots. I haven't heard a negative thing about this lens except the weight.

I'll go and take some shots with it now, and will be at shady brook farms later tonight with it as well.

I'm soo stooked!!!

edit-pics added
this was with the wide angle 24-85mm (my desk at work)

this was the 70-200mm (in the orig, you can read all the text on the back of the can as if you had it in your hand)
(was a slightly blurry pic, that lens is heavy)

it all depends on what type of shots you want to take. I have the above 2 lenses and a 18-55mm one that came with the camera.

I'm no lens master, but what i did was i went to B&Hphoto and just took my time reading about the lenses that fit my camera. I then found like 4 or so lenses that interested me, and then slowly worked thru them to find the best one for my needs in the price range.

Hopefully I like rice will chime in, being that I also asked him what his thoughts where on my choices...

Hope that helps...

I don't think you'll need a monopod. You will get use to the weight of your new set up; you should be able to handhold a 10 lb set up all day long; I'm a small guy and if I can do it, you can too. My 1D MKII wedding set up weighs in at 13 lbs.

I have a Gitzo CF monopod and I've used it for a total of 5 minutes. If I ever buy a 400 or 500mm, then I'll start using it but til then, I prefer not to use a monopod.

ha i've been trying to use mine more lately, but sometimes its just too much bulk for me to worry about. what i really need is a 2nd body and then rock a smaller camera bag.

I'm shooting with a rebel xt. hahaha i know i know a lens thats almost twice $ of the camera body? but... all in do time.

Yea I guess thats true, it just felt heavy and awkward, but this is the fifst lens of this size that I've used. So getting comfortable and confident with it will definitely come.

I never used hoods before, nor filters, but they aren't to pricey... figure i'd try them out.

this was a held shot, plants were about, 10ft away. (oh and this is saved for web)

the lens is what makes the shot; the body is only a small factor in image quality. it's tough to get a good shot from a ****ty lens on a good body, but it's easier to get a good shot with a good lens on a ****ty body.

i know, it's just amusing to me.

Now it's time to look into a bag to carry all this new found glory...
I've been looking at a lowepro SlingShot 200 AW or this one caselogic backpack one, i forget teh name off hand. Any recomendations, I want to be able to carry all my gear in one bag, having a laptop section could be a plus too. But not necassary.

i'd go to Allens or New York Camera (both local big camera shops) with all your gear, and ask if its ok to try loading it into a variety of bags to see how it fits, etc. they'll be fine with it, and you'll have a really good idea of what you like and what you dont.
also, unless you're pretty positive you're not going to buy anything else for a while, get a bag thats a little bigger than you need, the extra space will almost definitely come in handy.
