Installing Underglow

I just picked some up off of an Ebay store for $50 shipped, got them today. They look like they will work nicely, but putting them in I'm not too sure. I have a friend who is going to install them with me this week, but I'd really like to see the lights all lit up now. I'm sure I can do it, and if I can't, my neighbor is an electrician in the summer plus his dad owns a shop.

So would you guys suggest installing this on my own, and what would you suggest while doing this?

to test them out now, just hook up the positive and negative leads to your battery.

fairly simple to install, i have the streetglow gold series kit, but i think this kit you have to hook up each tube individually. my suggestion, get two barrier strips, one for each lead and run a wire from the battery to each. i'd set it up like this:

battery---3 amp inline fuse---toggle switch---barrier strip--- positive neon

then, negative neon---barrier strip---battery

it can vary though, but from what i think your're working with, is how i'd do it.

to mount, home depot sells zip ties w/ a drill hole in them. just mount to your frame, or what's avialable.

i've done lots of these installs, and it can be "tricky" at first, but once you get going, it should be easy. good luck!

Er, well this p.o.s ebay store just sold me some tubes that would blow out easily. Two of them went out, one my fault cause i dropped it maybe a foot, and the other is all their fault. I emailed them, I really don't want to get their product again though.

if these were neon tubes of course they break...LED works best here plus if one of the bulbs burns out you replace it not the whole tube. neon are glass, so they are very fragile

It's blue LED, it sounds like a blown bulb. You know how you can hear the filament rattling inside on a household bulb? Same thing here.

"what would you suggest while doing this"

Take a large hammer.

Place your hand, preferably the hand you write, shift, and hold yourself with when you urinate, on a table or workbench.

Lift the hammer high into the air, and let it crash down upon your hand.

Do this every time you again think of installing neon on your car.

It's just for fun, I saw a green stang with green underglow and I thought it looked amazing. It was only $50.

Where would i get the bulbs to replace them?

It's personal opinion. I'm driving a Mustang, there is no rice to it. If I had a Civic and I was butting underglow on it, then I give you permission to berate me.

this is a tech thread, not an opinion thread. if you're not asking or answering a question that is helpful and related to the topic, you should not be posting here. get it?

Buy good equipment from a real shop. IE Streetglow from a dealer. The kit will come with everything you need.

in all honesty with any part on ebay you really need to shop around, i got some 12" LEDs for my car with a lifetime guarentee for 65 (including shipping) you can either look for a shop or spend as much time reading reviews up on items, as far as installing underglow im not completely sure so i'll leave my opinion out but i hope all goes well and best of luck to you

I have some streetglow red neons under the Malibu. I've seen a lot of muscle cars with neons underneath.

They are a bitch to install discreetly. I managed to hide all of my wiring inside of frame rails, and the install took forever. Most just dangle it underneath the car, and it looks like crap. Make sure it's concealed.

Sucks about the broken bulb. I would just buy new stuff from somewhere local. They'll probably break another two just shipping them to you...

I have so far had neon...and then LED's....and then a ADDITIONAL set of LED's added to my current setup. Overall, LED's look good in the beginning but over time they get really cheap and brittle. Mine only lasted a season of car shows...and that was last year i look at them now half of them are missing/broken.

So really...Next time look into spending a few extra bills on the better kits, IE: Street Glow

LED has many bulbs (especially the long 48 inch ones that go under the body) i remember my friend's had close to 50 or so. I dont think they can all go at once unless something happened with the wiring, or maybe the thing they are wired to snapped and broke the circuit. i would suggest taking the tube off, taking it apart, and seeing what you find. pictures speak 1000 words so post up and maybe someone can help you out. GL, and dont listen to the other people badmouthing you. its your car, do what you want...while some might not like it, its what YOU want it to be. if you have the listing from ebay where you bought the tubes, post it
