Very Serious Issue. PA public transit users please read.

Your train is about to be derailed!
Your bus is about to run out of fuel!

If we don't get adequate, dedicated funding for septa by september, fares will rise by an average of 30% and service will be cut by 20%.

Examples:
-The cash fare will go up from $2.00 to $2.50, an increase of 25%
-Transfers will be eliminated so a token and transfer will go up from $1.90 to 2.80, an increase of 47%
-A weekly transpass will go up from $18.75 to $25.00, an increase of 33%
-A monthly transpass will go up from $70 to $105, an increase of 57%
-Zones 1 and 2 on the regional rail will be merged. A monthly combined zone 1/2 regional rail pass will go up from $70(zone1) or $106(zone2) to $143.50, an increase of 105% and 35%
-Many buses that now run every thirty minutes will now run ever sixty(route 27) or seventy minutes(route 22). Buses will be so full that many passengers will have to stand.
-Many trips will be eliminated (Three morning and 3 evening trips will be eliminated on route 35)
-Saturday service will follow the current Sunday schedule on many routes
-Sunday service on many routes will be heavily reduced or discontinued (route 19)

But you can put transit back on track!

-Rally for transit! Thursday, May 31st 12pm (noon), Dilworth Plaza (west side of city hall)
-Call or email your legislators now!
-Sign the petition: No legislative transit without public transit. We demand that legislators give up their free transit until they solve our transit problem. Sign online at http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/ptc1

Guys, this isn't a joke. If I'm getting this information, it's gonna happen. If you want to actually call/email legislators, I will post up all 203 names of our senators and representatives with names, phone numbers, and emails/websites.

Public transit in this city is a joke. They really need to work something out, before they go bankrupt and end up making the fares more ridiculous then they already are.

We on this board are proof of why mass transit in this country will never work. We love our vehicles too much.

But for some that live in the city, it's the best option. I would hate to see those people suffer because Septa can't get it right.

Yes this is BS, my stepdad is legally blind and needs a bus to get to work as he can't get a license. long story short he might have to quit because they are scragging his bus stop due to cost! 20 years at a company, 60+ hours a week and leave it to PA to ruin it for another hardworking american!

You guys really know very very little about the internal workings of septa.

Do you know how much a god damn bus costs? Or how much the repairs on them are?

I think you all need a reality check. It's not SEPTA's fault that the government won't give them the money.

Yeah, I can't understand how a company goes up on fares every so many years and still is in the hole. And as everypne says we have to suffer. Mind you, I live in Mt. Airy and work in Center City so it's perfect. But if they plan on going up, I'll just find a job that I can drive to...why spend the $25+ dollars waiting on the bus when I can be in my own car without others leaning on me or stinky. It's ridiculous, but they know they can do because too many people rely on Septa. EVen if they go up, people will have to take it on the chin because everyone or even half the people can't afford vehicles, let alone insurance AND maintenance.

$500k buses can attribute to that...what with the public crying out for new technology and hybrids.

Along with rising fuel costs. Being that we have 120gal fuel tanks.

Oh, did I mention that the cost of parts is ridiculous? OH! Did I mention that there's very very very few manufacturers of buses so that they can set the price to whatever they want?

OH! We changed the design of the bus to be more friendly to handicapped people. Well, because we decided to make it easier for handicapped to use the bus, we had to change the entire driveline.

Did I mention the cost of parts again?

How about the costs for redesigning axles with triple gear reduction done in seperate housings? We can't fit a regular pumpkin under those low-floors, mind you.

OH! And you all like to be comfortable in the bus, right? Need that expensive-ass refrigerant...R22! Can't cool that thing off properly without it.

The list goes on, guys. You're tuners, you should know that the price of parts is high as hell.

So let's raise the prices then. We can make a nice profit if we double it.

well lets audit them and find out where the money is going. cause i dont think septa is shoping around for the right prices on parts and supplies and all the other stuff. and also if they are in such a need for money then why are the still hiring? they shouldnt b hiring anyone else right now yet they still do that. why do they need to that if they are eliminating bus routs and cutting back on services

The government should not have to "rescue" a company that has a monopoly of transportation in the region. What is sad is that Septa cannot run their business, and that the government will have to step in so that it's city will continue to have public transportation.

I understand that parts cost a lot, but if that's the reason, then how come this issue isn't happening across the country with public transit? Hell, EVERY company has to deal with rising costs, but they restructure, reorganize, and make it happen. Gas costs so damn much right now that people are driving less and using public transportation more. In theory they should be making more money, right?

I don't want to hear about the inner workings of a business and it's costs, like they are the only business that has problems with rising costs. They need to take a big look at themselves, instead of waiting to be rescued by Philadelphia taxpayers.
