Twin Loop Mufflers; Whats the deal?

OK so ive been looking to make the exhaust note on the civic a little deeper, but havent really been able to find any kinds of cheap aftermarket mufflers that would do it for me. Then I saw the twin loop mufflers on ebay. At first I thought they were some kind of new rice toy like the "turbo FX muffler insert" but saw a member post his integra here that had one installed, and it made me wonder; whats the deal with these things? They are originally developed by Mugen, and several companies have made copies of them including OBX, Netami, and others. What is the sound like? What is the point of the loop? Any answers would be apretiated. I saw 2 threads that were posted before, but none really answered my questions. Any honda/acura guys that can help me with this dillema? On ebay the OBX costs 95-125 shipped, compared to the 40-50 for an N1 style muffler, so there must be some kind of difference between them.

Well I think the increased price means SOMETHING. There are some cheaper versions on ebay for 50 dollars as well, but I think thats a bit shady

dude, why dont you just get the entire exhaust system like the N1 knock off or greddy knock of on ebay, even the OBX brand, i mean you'll get a better gain for about $200 than just changing the muffler

I would imagine they would cost more to make, since there is more fabrication involved. There's your price difference.

Otherwise, my guess is that they are quieter since they pass through the muffler twice.

Again, that's a guess. But a guess from me is like the word of god.

4.5 inch tip.

i am running 400whp thru a 2.25 stock exhaust or a 2.5 open downpipe...

why does anyone need a 4.5 inch exhaust outlet?

Dont know how fitment and sound would be...then again this is also a shot in the dark..that exhaust has way too many bends..my stock one is basically a downpipe, a straight pipe going all the way back, nad it only bends right after the DP, and where the axleback bolts on. Il get a pic of it hold on

i dont know why you need a 4.5 inch tip i mean your right its useless, but i was referring to the fact that he would buy a $100 muffler, for $100 more you can have the whole exhaust system, wouldnt it be better to have the whole system than just a muffler?

does it really make a difference on a n/a civic that'll never make any power? better off addin an intake/exhaust on the car and dropping the clutch at 4000rpm everywhere

when i worked for ipp we tested our knock off twin loop muffler against an n1 muffler. the torque was alot higher than the n1 muffler.

A full exhaust system wont sound great on your car, but a 1.5 inch pipe into a 3+ inch muffler will sound even worse.

Get a full system, preferably a good brand as well, if not you will regret it in no time at all, or custom to the twin muffler, at least it looks stock then

DC sports actually came out with these exhausts first. they are designed to be quieter than a normal aftermarket exhaust while not robbing you of horsepower like alot of quiet type mufflers do.

this one goes for $860. keep in mind, you get what you pay for

also, the OBX doesnt use the true dual cannister technique, they cut corners by putting two resonators into a huge muffler and having the pipe wrap back around to try and deaden the noise. that knockoff muffler will suck. i garuntee it

i have heard it on a few cars and it actually did make the car sound ..... um ............... less ricey? but you would be better off buying a cheap catback i mean hell its a honda you can probably find a header high flow cat and a catback for the same price

problem with the cat, is that mine is built into my header, unlike the EX model. LX FTMFL!

i suggest putting on a flowmaster or borla exhaust. they sound good, deep, and not raspy
