East Coast .:R Tail of the Dragon/Deal's Gap April 6-7 2007

I had some fun over the weekend down in Robbinsville, NC. About 45 R32's showed up from all over the east coast (despite the cold weather!). The 300 + turns provided much enjoyment for all of us. Not so much for our brakes! This road is one to be traveled by all enthusiast. Words cant describe the turns and conditions of the road. I tried posting links but i cant...

They are pricey, but well worth it. I guess i'm kinda VW biased cuz its my 5th dub. It's not the fastest car, but still very fun to drive and own.

TST should look into setting up a weekend trip to Deal's Gap. I'm ready for another

Hell yeah danny, i'd go. Good to hear you had a good time. I'll help you set up another trip if the interest is there. I'm sure there's some people on TST that would go.

OK. I will go right now

Seriously, Its best to get there on a Thursday night, run the dragon all day Friday(not too much traffic), and leave to come home Saturday early afternoon. I suggest anyone that considers doing this to have your brakes 100% before you leave! And crossing the yellow lines on this road is looked down upon! ALOT!!!

Hotels are fairly cheap. Tapoco Lodge was $109 per night and it is located right on Rt129 at the bottom of the dragon. There is vacation homes that can be rented w/ garages, etc. (not sure of the rates)

There is NO cell service for at least 30-40 minutes. Nor any towns, people, cops, food. There is NO LIQUOR sold in this county! must bring or buy on the way.

Total driving distance is just shy of 800 miles each way from the bucks county area. I had to fill up twice each way. So $200 for fuel should get you there and back.

Anyone here can suggest dates that start from thurs-sat's. Most of us will have to take off work for 2 days. WELL WORTH IT!

Any weekend after this month is good for me!

it may be going overboard, but you can ship your car there! I have heard of it being done before...
Just take the NSX! I saw a few there a couple of weeks ago. That thing will be lots of fun.

I'm going again August 3-5, definitely a good time. The roads around it are great as well. We rent a house when we go.

I have been wanting to make a trip down there for a couple years now, and now that I have a new car and mileage and reliability aren't a major concern I am definitely down to make a trip there.

A question for you though...

Did you make the trip in a day? If so how long did it take you?
(Most people I know seem to make it a 2 day trip down there)

If I were to make the trip I would like to possibly take even more time off and make it longer than a 2 or 3 day trip but thats just me.

BTW, that is a nice group of R's you guys had there!

It's about an eight to nine hour drive. I did it in one day each way.
