Undercoating removal

Just wondering what everyones opinion is on the easiest way to do this. Obviously its not for everyone. I've heard you can lose alot of weight by taking the time to do it.

I tried a heat gun and it would have taken about a year to do it. I then built a big heat lamp using quartz bulbs and it works alot better but its still going to take a while to do.

So anyone who has done it, how did you do it and how much weight did you save?

Good Luck! Keep on going with the heat idea. That is probably the best way.

Have you tried this? I think it would just turn it to mush and make a huge mess.

This is what I've come up with so far, it's difficult because its not flat.

Third pic is about 5 minutes of work. Yes, this device is dangerous.

Is this really worth the hassle? Is this going to be a dedicated track car? If not, don't waste your time doing this to a car you drive daily.

I wouldnt have asked it if I didnt already decide that it was a good idea, im not asking everyones opinion on wether or not I should do it.

Well, if you were more descriptive in what's in your garage.. more than "tin can", maybe I wouldn't of wondered if it were a race car or not.

Thanks Bryan, but there are a lot of morons on this site that would actually try to do this to their daily car.

If it would have said "Automatic eclipse" would you still wonder if it was a race car? I wouldnt have put anything descriptive enough in my 'garage' for you determine weather or not its a race car.

To some, the hoosiers would have been a dead giveaway.

You know what dude, my post was in no way to be rude or undercut you, I said what I said so you don't do this to a daily car. Guess what? Hoosiers can be put on a daily driver, and taken off. People do it all the time in parking lots of autox's.. etc. I don't know.. the garage is just more than something that shows up in your avatar.. if you CLICK it.. there's pictures and a description you can put for your car! Maybe you should do that, you know? That's a pretty vital part for a CAR forum. So what is up with your car? Eclipse? Explain what your car is, that's what I asked.

So don't point the finger at me calling me immature, or a know it all. My post was nothing like that. Chill out.

Okay..

Well, I remember reading/hearing that you can freeze that stuff and chip it off also. Dry ice? I can't remember.

you can freeze and chip off the sound deadening in the car, but the stuff underneath you really have to work to get off.

For the method I said above, wire wheel and tattoo remover, will work pretty well. It will make a mess and take a while, but it's a lot better than trying to heat it up and scrape it off.

Ill have to give that a shot, Thanks. The heat stripper I made seems to work well but its a bit dangerous with bare wires sticking out and a steel frame of a car.

i was gonna take a shot and say maybe some kind of a chemical stripping agent, like the kind body shops use to remove old paint. other than that, i think what you were doing with the heat lamp thingy was working ok for 5 minutes worth of work, but i am sure you would get really tired of holding that lamp under there, and getting burnt by the crap dropping off of the car
