Got a kick out of this GERD solultion for a patient.

Just thought it was a knee slapper that I had to tell a patient in the ER these steps to stop her GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease/ Acid reflux/AKA: Heart burn)

The attending wrote down.

-Avoid foods that may make your symptoms worse, such as acidic foods (citrus- and tomato-based products), alcohol, chocolate, caffeinated drinks, fatty foods, garlic, onions, and peppermint.
-Avoid large meals and do not eat anything for 3 to 4 hours before you go to bed.
-Lose weight, if you need to.
-Raise the head of your bed by 4 to 8 inches.
-If you smoke, stop.

Maybe its just me, but telling a 327lb. lady whos a smoker that she needs to cut out her favorite foods and stop smoking to stop the burning sensation in the throat that was so bad she had to squeeze into a car and come to the ED is a pretty crappy job lol.

I thought she was going to kill me when I told her that. That combined with the fact that she was being discharged without a treatment.

i used to have bad heart burn, prilosec is a mirracle drug until you get tollerent to it

i believe that once someone gets that fat they should get an ultimatim to lose wieght and if they dont make any progress in a year they should be put down, so that they dont drain our precious natural resources

I agree...Fat people who complain have no sympthy from me.

As they walk into Mcdonalds and get greasy ass food and a Diet Coke...Then sue them because it's Mcdonalds fault they got fat

Theres a law thats trying to get passed they before a overweight person gets Bariatric surgery that they need to follow a doctors diet/ excercise plan for no less then one year in an attempt to lose the weight naturally.

Sadly, less than 2% of patients overweight can lose the weight on will power alone.

Actually i think it is addicting. I am by no means fat, only 150 lbs and 6'1, and everytime i ate teh chicken selects it made me sick and poop, and i still got it everytime. Thank god i haven't eaten fast food in five months
