And what do you know, no more than 4 seconds after I thought it he lost control and plowed into a guardrail going about 40. I don't get how thick some people can get. Of course I called the police etc, but I still don't understand how someone can't feel the limit of a car. If I am driving an AWD rally-inspired car and think that going 40 is way too fast already (this was heavy snow), how can a FWD minivan even consider going faster? It just boggles the mind. I completely understand you. I am going through winter with falken summer tires and rarely drive during snow at all. Whenever it snowed I hitched a ride. However, I won't be as proud to say that I haven't driven this car in the snow this year and I took the risk knowing fully what I was doing. I drove 30 miles in snow on FK452s no problem. People just need to learn how to gauge their environment. Oh and IB: Youradumbassfordrivingwithsummertiresinthewinter

I also just clicked "new posts".
It says I must wait 3017 more seconds before I can use it again.

Yeh, Pam and I went to dinner around 6ish. There were several ditch divers out there. Of course I am always willing to throw out my tow strap, and a healthy dose of heckling. You should see their expressions when I tell them "I'm using a recovery strap to 'snap' you out of your situation. You might want to keep your head back in your headrest"
Or when they say "$50 to pull me out?! Thats insane!" I respond with(as I throw the recovery strap back into my $845 Cherokee) " You're right, dumba$$, wait for the tow truck...cause you know they won't charge you."

I geuss it's all about experience under snowy conditions. Have you ever been up to canada? This weather is the normal for them every day of every winter and they drive like we do on sunny days and yet they have less accidents than we do.

Is snow new to these people? *warning* rant
Some of you might have noticed it snowed and sleeted today. Apparantly, it wasn't completely clear to everyone though. I mean, most of the time when our roads turn from a black color to a bright white it means that we're having some form of slippery precipitation, but it would seem that some human beings failed to understand this. That's well and good for those first timers to the snowy season here in the Tristate area, those travelers from Florida bless you and welcome to winter... where the world turns white and the idiots come out to drive!
For the rest of the morons who have seen snow year in and year out and, better yet, have seen it's effect on the physics of driving, you'd think they'd get a clue. This is my second full winter driving, I'm 18 years old and the consensus would generally agree that I am therefore a n00bert behind a steering wheel. Today, this n00bert drove a turbocharged FWD Honda Civic equipped with 205/45/16 Toyo Proxie4s and a tiretucking drop through 17 miles of poorly plowed ice and snow. In fact, you could go as far to say that I effectively helped plow the streets myself (hey, guys in the big dumptrucks... that would be your cue to start plowing). My car now sits in a snow covered driveway with 0 scratches, 0 curb rash, and I'd go as far to say that I never even slid out of my lane. So, for everyone who ended up ass backwards in a guard rail, tree, field, or god forbid another car. What's your excuse? To the guy in the F-150 who blew past me today on 309, who I later passed after you kissed the inner median, what do you have to say for yourself? To the guy who crashed his gold camry this morning, did you like getting to see a picture of your stupidity displayed vividly on the news? (I laughed SO hard when I saw that by the way). To the lady in the Accord who ended up completely backwards with your ass stuck up on the hill, I hope you enjoyed blocking traffic and getting the finger from everyone who passed you. For christs sake people, use your head out there! /rant.

I had a ball getting home from work...I got to my street fine, and then hell began...its a one way loop street and it goes on a little slant up...i cant get in going up, so i try to go the other way...spend 30 minutes getting my car onto the main road...then went to the other entrance, got stuck there, 30 minutes later i was where i bagan...15 minutes later i figured id call my dad cause I just couldnt get up myself...we had to dig 2 trenches for my tires to get through, and all in all, an hour later, I moved 100 feet from my street corner to my parking space. ****ty tires (goodyear integrity)+ crummy weather=stay home! Every store closed early except for our walgreens...we were open till 10, and I got home at around 11:15..usually a 10 minute drive.
One more thing maybe someone can explain...why dont they plow our streets, but my friend in the suburbs said all of the roads were clean...is suburban tax money worth more than ours???

as bad as this sounds yesterday coming down 222 in Lancaster there where probably 6 people at least that I saw who had slid off the highway. While they are there in their missary I'm cruising down the highway at about 50 laughing my ass off trying to figure out how the hell they lost control. It's honestly not difficult to drive in the snow in any FWD or AWD vehicle as long as you remember to make no sudden movements.
aslso just an FYI I am driving on all season tires |

I live right off of route 33... I get to watch all the idiot slide up and down the on/off ramps because they speed down them and then hit the 'stop' signs or 'wrong way signs' if the keep sliding across the road onto the other ramp... and I'm on a dead end road, We wont be plowed out til monday, The Laser won't even move, the snow comes up to the bumper plus a little bit. My neighbors crashed into eachother in their OWN DRIVEWAY! wtf?

LOL. I was coming out of the Palisades Mall parking lot. I over-revved and got at a 45 degree angle. But, I got out of it. Doing donuts and powers slides in abondoned parking lots after it snows is really helpful in learning the limits of your car. Oh, and a minivan did pass me going very fast yesterday. But, he didn't crash. Some people are just stupid. Maybe they don't care if they crash or not.

Yeah i have to agree finding those open parking lots and practicing driving in the snow and finding the limits of a car is very useful. in fact so useful i scared the **** out of my mom while picking up my brother last night, lets just say i had control of the slides and she wouldnt stop yelling or hitting me.
i also have to agree with the assholes who drive like snow is rain and nothing will ever happen to them. sure i know how to drive in the snow and how to control the car but that doesnt mean i am going to drive at high rates of speed, and make an ass of myself. i spend countless nights in empty parking lots and still to this day i drive slow and make sure i will be able to control the car. too many people on the roads today suck at driving period, one of them is my brother (totaled 2 cars in less than a month -- one of which was because of ice). when i drive when its snow/sleeting/iced over roads im not scared or worried about me driving i more worried about the other assholes who cant drive, out driving. sorry for the random ranting but i guess this **** just seems to piss me off

i was running late this morning and didn't have time to get all the ice off the roof of the explorer, i figured it wouldn't mater cause i usually get it while i'm on lunch break at work before it gets warm and starts to melt. anyways i'm driving to work and this jerk pulled out of wawa and cuts infront of me, i slammed on my brakes and just hardly missed hitting him, but the sheet of ice on my roof when flying forward and it looks like it cracked his back window..could have been there before but i;m not sure. i thought "oh crap" at first, but after thinking about it, serves him right!

That's why there is a law about clearing off your whole car! Even if he did cut you off, you are still responsible for the damage the flying ice caused to his car. I always find it amazing that people can't take an extra 10-15 minutes to clear off their whole car. God know I love dodging flying pieces off ice from car on the highway in the morning!

responsible or not, he'd have to catch up with me first 4x4 > RWD
if i was driving on the highway i would have taken the time to clear it all off, but i don't drive on the highway to go to work. it's a pretty short drive and there isn't really any traffic when i leave anyways.

Dude, not trying to start anything by any means, but that's really a jerk move. I bet if you cut someone off and their ice slammed into your Tibby's hatch window and cracked it you'd be fuming. Even if he cut you off, it doesn't serve him right. Just my $.02
