i was stretched out to 200mm, that may have something to do with it...and i'm not sure if it was windy out..the slightest little shake at 200mm will do that. I could probably do some sharpening in photoshop to fix it...i'll see what i can do

shot on a tripod right?
photographing the moon is really quite difficult. ideally you'd have at least 500mm of focal length but what people dont realize is that the moon is actually moving pretty fast and a normal 1/25th kind of exposure will be slightly blurred because of it. i learned the secret recentl which is to shoot, for example, 5 frames back to back, each at 5x the shutter speed you should be using, so the photos come out 5x darker. then you take each of the photos in photoshop and stack them and align them, and you come out with one sharp, perfectly exposed image. yup, pain in the arse.

well if you stack the photos the right way, its like additive color, it gets lighter with each layer (vs. subtractive which would get darker with each layer). so the whole thing would just get lighter at the same rate, so its not exactly like an HDR where you take multiple shots at different exposures.
oh and another thing i meant to say, i would try without the CP... i dont think its necessary? and it is cutting out 1-2 stops of light.

ha yeah... except i dont think its necessary here. if i were you i would:
use a shutter release cable use mirror lockup hope the tripod is very stable take 5 or 10 photos back to back... mirror up...pause...shoot...mirror up... pause... shoot, etc etc. use the interval timer for self portraits or to do a time lapse kinda thing

The moon is also quite bright. This was taken with my 80-400vr @400 1/200 f5.6 ISO 100. This is cropped about 1/3.

Looks pretty good, It is definitely harder than most people think, I know.
I think Troll offered some good advice, and I agree I would try shooting without the CP, that alone may alone you to quicken your shutter speeds and therefor avoid the slightly out of focus appearance. Other than that just watch your WB (not to say its off in your pic). I know the moon can have a yellowish tint to it some nights like it does in the OP, but that does seem to be fairly off white, so I would just be adjusting it before almost every shot. ibepressin: that is a very nice example!
