Another project I don't have time for...

My sister and brother-in-law, Bill, sold their classic '69 Impala Station Wagon a few months back, and started hunting for anther classic/unique family cruiser. Craigslist to the rescue...Bill responded to an add in CA for a '69 Checker Marathon wagon, no engine/trans, non-functional brakes, rust free, needs total restoration. The owner said he had access to the original 327 small block Chevy engine and 3 speed manual trans. They agreed on a price for the car, with the engine/trans bolted back into the car, not running. All of this happened ~2 months ago.

3 weeks ago, Bill was diagnosed with cancer in his stomach. Right now he is in the hospital getting treatments, and getting ready for surgery. Not exactly ready for his new machine.

Anywho, the carrier called yesterday stating the March 4 arrival. Here are some pics of the road grime covered project car. The fun begins!

Here it is on the car carrier, on the top of Shurs Lane in Manayunk...keep in mind it tips the scale somewhere near 4,000lbs, doesn't run, and has NO BRAKES!! We had contimplated calling the folks at Grape Street Pub at the bottom of the hill to warn them of their impending 'special delivery'

Kind of 'Cristine'ish

Yeh, this is my kind of ride.....

The soon to be freshened up 327 Chevy

The crew of car pushers that kept it from a potentially bad ride down Shurs Lane

The story will continue....

It should be a nice ride when complete. So far, we can't find any record of ANY Checker wagons that are still on the road. I would guess that there are fewer than 50 left in existance. I can't wait to start the restoration.
