NEW Car Laws... READ!!!

www.semasan.com

I signed up at SEMA last year. It's good stuff, even if you don't sign up. Just take a good look at it. Lots of Laws that we should all be aware of to support or fight.

PS. This should be sticky..

dont think it needs a sticky BUT here is one you and I should be concerned with.

Quote:
Pennsylvania Reintroduces Bill to Ban the Use of
Aftermarket Exhaust Systems
Legislation (H.B. 1330) that would effectively prohibit the use of exhaust systems other than a “factory-installed muffler” or a “muffler meeting factory specifications” has been reintroduced in the Pennsylvania State House of Representatives by Representative Michael K. Hanna (Phone: 717/772-2283, Fax: 717/787-4137). The bill has been referred to the House Transportation Committee.

Contact Rep. Hanna and Members of the Pennsylvania House Transportation Committee (List Below) Immediately to Request Their Opposition to H.B. 1330

H.B. 1330 ignores the fact that aftermarket exhaust systems are designed to make vehicles run more efficiently without increasing emissions.

H.B. 1330 fails to recognize that aftermarket exhaust systems offer increased performance and utility.

H.B. 1330 would make it nearly impossible for hobbyists to replace factory exhaust systems with more durable, better performing options.

H.B. 1330 perpetuates the erroneous assumption that enthusiasts who equip their vehicles with modified exhaust systems are involved in illegal street racing.

Call or Fax the members of the House Transportation Committee in Harrisburg (See List Below) today to oppose this legislation. This bill unfairly tramples on the rights of vehicle enthusiasts in Pennsylvania.

Great link there, Matt.

The most offensive laws are the inoperable vehicle laws on PRIVATE property.

Everyone should read those links.

Wonder if the exhaust law completely bans aftermarket systems, or just to a certain Decibal limit like before.

^ It would ban all aftermarket exhaust systems not to factory specification. Listed for Massachusetts and Hawaii, but if it passes I wouldn't be surprised to see it in more states. I think it's ridiculous.

The one pool mike mentions is the worst though. Giving police the right to judge if a vehicle should be disposed of when it's on PRIVATE property is outrageous. Are they going to take my model cars, too? Or just the Fiat?

Huh, I live in Jersey not PA so I'm wodering if Jersey is working a on passing a similar exahust bill?

As far as the bill allowing police the right to judge if a vehicle should be disposed of when its on private property, thats crazy.

About a couple of weeks ago, a Lawrenceville police officer walked into my work and asked who's truck was parked out in front of the store with a for sale sign on it. It happened to be one of my co-workers who is trying to sell it and has been parking it out front occasionally on the side of of our building that sits on a main road. My co-worker said "It's mine, why?" and he said "Oh, ok. We have been having problems with people parking stolen cars with for sale signs on private property recently" and he just walked out. No one called him, I guess he was just looking for something to do, but his reasoning made absolutely no sense to me.

yea i asked my law teacher, and he told me i couldnt read good cause it says:
Issue: Exhaust Noise/ muffler
Bill: HB 1330
Status: Introduced
Location:
Description: Amends exhaust law to require motor vehicles to be equipped with a muffler meeting factory specifications and in compliance with maximum noise levels permitted under current law.
Author: Representative Hanna
Intro Date: 12-Apr-05
Bill Type: Two Year Bill from 2005

..which means its inefective 12-APR-07, then they have to reimpose it all over again, based on its effectiveness during those 2 years. If it didnt help with "illegal street racing" and such, they probably wont pass it again, becuase its not hurting anybody etc etc..

what if it gets passed and you have an aftermarket exhaust first? Would that mean everyone needs to go take their exhaust off?

probably, i doubt everyone that has an aftermarket exhaust will be grandfathered, because there is no way to proove that you had it before the law was passed. and once it gets passed, everyone would try to say they had there exhaust before
