Niagara Falls experiences?

I'm planning a trip with my girlfriend to Niagara in May, hopefully a three night stay sort of gig. Just wondering if anyone has been up there, and what they recommend doing, where they think we should go, and if any hotel was exceptionally good. Of course were gonna see the falls, but shes set on staying three nights, and the falls can only fill so much of that. Also, any advice on what to do in Canada would help too, shes busting my ass to get my passport so we can cross over too.

My Gf has never been out of the state really, so I want this to be the best trip possible for her, since shes never had a vacation before this....

theres a 365 days a year haunted house on the main strip over in canada. its called nightmares, its awesome. theres gambling if your both at least 19, the space needle wanna be thingy, wax museum, ripleys belive it or not museum, and just tons of cool shops right over the border in canada. just make a day of walking around there. youll find stuff to do each day. also keep an eye out for a black squirell on canada side of the falls. hes super people friendly and walks around with everyone.(i think he thinks hes a human..lol)

i know you're supposed to have a passport to go to canada but i was just there in january with a bunch of other people and not everyone had a passport. birth certificates and ID's were used instead. im not sure if this is because we were on a bus or something but you may not need a passport. of course getting one will be way easier than trying to cross without but i thought i'd throw it out there..anyway, enjoy your stay and bring back some nice pics

yah, i think legally you need one starting the 1st of this year, and im not trying to risk it ya know? That would be a trip ruiner.

Definitely down for gettin pics tho, thinkin about gettin a wider lens before i go, 28-135 wont cut it for the falls i dont think.... well just have to see how the funds work tho, and whether i feel good enough with my camera by then to even merit buying another lens

im looking at getting a 12-24 or a 10-20 soon instead of the retarded lenses i got with my camera...even if you dont feel completely comfortable im sure you will be much happier with your photos if you have a nice wide lens....and i also thought that the first of the year was when you needed a passport but i was there after the first so i dunno.

those are pretty much the same two im looking at, just got to figure which is the best bang for buck, and need to improve some b/n now and then.

And im sure that i could probably find a way around the passport thing, but im not trying to get up there and find out i was wrong, better safe than sorry

I remember two things from Niagara Falls.

The squirrels there are extremely friendly and will crawl up your leg to get food.

There is a bridge that goes over the river, it's several hundred feet up and I was scared to DEATH.

I've been up there a few times over the past few years. The Canadian side is the place to be, so make sure that you have your passport. Get ready to do a bunch of walking. I recommend looking at the falls from both sides. This is the only spot where being on the US side is nice. The US basically has a huge park and you can walk near the falls and there are "islands" in the river that you can walk out to and walk around climbing on the rocks near the falls. I can't remember waht the one attraction is, but it is on the American side and takes you to the base of the falls where you walk out at the bottom. Makes for some great pics, you will get wet though. Maid of the Mist is a must. Their are also gardens to go look at etc on the Canadian side. Also on the Canadian side there is a small quaint town that has a bunch of specialty shops etc. It's actually pretty cool. If you are a gambling man there are plenty of Casino's on both sides of the falls (more in Canada though). The same thing goes with restaurants. You could also consider going up to the ship locks on the Canadian side. And last but not least, wine tasting.... there are so many wine shoppes scattered out in the country near the small town and Niagra on the Canadian side it's rediculas. You are sure to find a bottle of wine that you will enjoy.

Either way make sure you have your passport. You will get bored on the American side. The Canadian side is where it's at currently. It's more developed and has many more attractions.
