thats ridiculous, involuntary manslaughter maybe? i guess her headlights werent working at the time, and she couldnt swerve just the slightest bit to avoid the situation. i hope this is appealed and she gets charged with something.

I cant believe they gave her name. You know every cop on the East coast has her picture and a picture of her van/ plates taped to their steering wheel.

also true. would be sad to see revenge taken on her by the police but in this case i think she deserved more than she got.

Sounds like an accident.

Did the cop have his lights on or was he wearing a vest? I'm sure she didn't do it on purpose and didn't see him until the last second. Its sad to hear someone lost there life, but it was an accident and looks like the courts ruled it so.

She probably just wasn't paying attention to the road. But, then again there have been times where even when I have my lights on it's difficult to see what's ahead.

his car was off to the side of the road i dont know if he had his lights on though, nonetheless, how hard could it be to see a guy pulling a dead deer off to the side of the road?

he was a good friend of a lady i work with, she was pretty upset, a lot of people were upset. sucks pretty bad.

even if it was an accident, thats why they came up with different levels of guilt. i think some level of involuntary manslaughter is deserving. this case will just be a precedent for others to claim they didnt see someone crossing the street or something of that nature and get off scott free.

^Also true.

He had his lights on for sure I know that. Or at least thats what I was told by a medic who was on scene.

that's definitely really sad for that officer's family and everything but it's also horrible for that woman because even though she didnt get charge she's still got to live with a life of guilt knowing she killed someone. it's a lose lose situation for her she doesn't need to serve jail time it was an accident.

on a lighter note the name Dong Oh just reminds me of dane cook: "when you're asian it's eerrrrhhhhhhh ::crash::"

if memory serves me correctly, 2nd and/or 3rd degree involuntary manslaughter dont entail any jail time..I just dont think that the idea of guilt is enough of a sentence

I was just in a similar situation a few weeks back. On Woodbourne Road near Core Creek, two Middletown Police cars were on the side of the road getting ready to put a bullet in a deer that had been hit. As I approached their patrol cars (at roughly 5mph), all I could see were flashing lights. I went to go around the patrol cars and almost ran over a cop. I have very good vision and COULD NOT SEE HIM through all of the flashing lights, even at a crawl pace.

I can see how this could happen on 309 easily.

Vehicular Manslaughter does not also carry a jail sentence. Regardless it is upsetting anytime a police officer or someone that puts their life in danager everyday dies for a poor reason. I feel for the officers family but what would you have done in the same position?

Cop lights are good sometimes but they should turn those things off when they are not in pursuit. Those things are blinding.

Yeah I have to agree its hard as hell to see anything with a stobe light going. Try dancing in a room with other people with a stobe light going and things usually dont turn out pretty LOL

Wow, like mentioned before its a lose lose situation for both parties, the family of the officer and the women who hit him.

Believe it or not there is actually two kids I went to High School with who both hit and killed a person on two seperate occasions in 2005. I'm not sure whatever happened to one of the kids (because I really don't know him that well anymore), but the other kids case has been an ongoing court battle for over a year.

just curious.. what did the cop who ran a stop sign and mowed down those 2 teenage girls a few months ago get charged with?

i dont buy this retribution just because it was a cop who got it. i have nothing against cops.. 95% of them are fine upstanding people, but carrying a badge doesn't put you above the law or turn accidents into crimes.

accidents carry penalties just as much as intentional crimes do, albeit less severe but just because its an accident should absolve you from any penalty..if youre in a car accident and someone dies by some fluke then you're still held responsible for the death..i just think she got off a little easy
