dear god man, i guess i should give up then huh? i think we had a pretty long convo about how you cant just use any machinist and builder? unless you want the same thing to happen again?

Rich at Precision tuning, otherwise order a prebuilt block from Axis. Those are the only two options I would go with, and I've done my homework.

Oh yeah, if you didn't buy anything, just get the Axis stage 2 or 3 block!

I don't know what kind of experience 1320 has with machining and engine building so this is not directed at them at all, but in case this is helpful for anyone...
A great parts exhaust installer, wiring guy, engine swapper, alignment guy, fabricator, or tuner... does not make a good engine builder. It is a totally different type of very specialized work and good quality builders are few and far between. It is by far one of the most sensitive and important decisions you'll have to make if you ever come to it, and it is certainly not for whoever is local and offers to do the job. It is not something that can't be done pretty much perfect and it'll be fine... its either perfect or its going to blow up.
I would guess, based on my time in the built motor forum on nasioc, that at least 1/3 of built motors fail, and of course that is at the expense of anywhere from $1500-$5000 plus having your car down for weeks or months.
Hope that was informative for a few...

I agree 100% don't forget that you really need to know the person that you choose beyond just asking who went there before you because who knows maybe their motor just hasn't blown yet. Knowing the person ensures that they know what you're goals are and are better able to make recomendations based on what you're driving habits are (talking you out of a race motor for your daily driver). That being said when it comes time for me to have the engine work done on my car it's only going to be done at 1320 because that's who I feel most comfortable with and I know that if Ryan can't do it he will be the first one to tell me. Good advice all around (especially for people without a lot of excperience in finding a good shop).

why you guys so afraid of builders???? I mean it aint rocket science.. just get someone who has built many many motors and has the experience. Building a motor is all about specs. My boy rebuilt his motor in his livingroom...lol.. I kno a dude who built his block in his laundry room... you just have to know what you are doing.. i dunno maybe it is cuz you are talkin bout Subaru's... and if a motor blows it isnt always cuz of builder error.. i think most motor i seen blow are tuners errors.. or drivers error.. really depends on how it blows...

Well, Huff already had someone build him a motor. It burned an insane amount of oil right away. This time around, he wants to be extra careful, since he hasn't really had the chance to drive his car in the past few months, and it's cost a few assloads of money so far and still doesn't run.

WEll, i know how that feels, as do most folks who have built a "race" car or heavily modded street car. They are usualy in the garage more than on the street

I had an engine do that. The rings never seated for whatever reason. It was built by a very reliable builder.

I've had lots of luck with Markovich Engines in Warminster, I don't know that they will tackle imports.

Lorenzo's always does quality work.

My buddy George Whitlock would probably do it, when he is done with the Chazmobile.

ring seating has nothing to do with engine building... well a little but i mean.. your cylinders should have a fresh hone so thery are round.. your pistons are round.. and your rings are round..if it is built right everything should be in spec and clearences... but seating the rings is your job when you turn that motor on.. contray to what many people say about putting such and such miles first.. with any built motor YOU need to seat the rings and tune it as soon as you turn it on!!!!
