4wd is like a condom. It helps 97% of the time.

AWD helps, tires are the rest. AWD doesn't do too much if you have snow tires that don't fit on your car

I love it when i see fwd cars with snows on the back....see it all the time. That and people with 4x4's with regular passenger car tires on and wonder why it sucks in the snow. I had a friend with a ford exploder and it sucked in the snow cause he had pep boys specials on it

it's highly recommended to have snow tires on all 4 corners if you are driving in the snow in a FWD vehicle. Think of it this way traction up front none in the rear.... what happenes when you go around a corner, that's right you guessed it, your rear end will be catching up to you quicker then you can react. If you go snow tires you must put them on all 4 corners.

Well, AWD isn't helping me get out of my parking spot. There is so much snow up here that I can't back out. Doesn't help that the snow plow went right behind me either...

And my ABS light went on... wtf. I can't check it either as my hood is frozen shut.

*edit* Broke the hood open (damn ice) and saw that my ABS sensor was basically a giant ball of snow. It snowed through my hood vent onto my ABS sensor and battery. Battery is fine just the ABS sensor I guess is cold.

^ Yeah I started my car last night and right away I threw 2 codes. My secondary O2 sensor (more then likely ripped teh wiring out of it due to the snow) and then something about Engine Oil Pressure Sensor/Switch Circuit Low Voltage ... now that one scares me.... I know I have plenty of oil, I'm just a little worried that my oil pump might be freaking out...

I never really wanted a 4wd vehicle...I have always had 2wd trucks and have only rarely had a need for 4wd....i bought my legacy because i like the car and the awd was like a bonus for me. I am really liking it. I would really like to have gotten the turbo but "F" putting premium in every fillup.

I gotta let the car run and let the engine bay heat up for a bit later - I let it idle for like 20 minutes just so **** doesn't freeze. The snow around the ABS module was like solid. After it idled for a bit I got the majority of it off but there is still some junk all over it.

I got snow tires sitting next to me. The sidewall is too tall and will hit the spring perch

you cant get traction in the summer but you can in the snow?

and to all the AWD guys out there... yes it can help on accelleration and control but when it comes to stopping our cars are made the same way as every other one out there... 4 brakes and 4 wheels/tires. overconfidence can be a dangerous thing.

Or AWD is like Cocaine, you think you are invincible(sp) while you are on it.

AWD is great for grip in snow. But if you get on ice, yeah, that's bad mmmmmK.
