92 civic timing

hey guys

i have a 92 honda civic hatchback auto, it seems the timing is off somehow, i checked the crank pulley that mark matches the timing cover notch perfect. The cam gear was at TDC and the notch really didnt line up but i do have a pic.

The wires are fine, i tried pulling the dizzy and it turned fine with a very little noise when i turned it, as far as i can see the plugs look fine, pic s here

So if anyone can give some advice or something may be wrong let me know.Oh and heres and i diagram i used for the wire pug in

Thanks guys

tom

Is the car not starting? Or is the car not running up to par? Are you talking about ignition timing or cam/crank timing? That first pic does no good. Is the "up" mark on the cam gear at the top, and the two hash marks on either side of the gear parallel to the timing cover? When the gear is in that position, the lone white mark on the crank pulley should be lined up with the pointer on the lower timing cover. That's how you know your at TDC. If your talking about ignition timing please verify. Also, your firing order may be off. Looking at the distributor from the passenger side fender it should go like this:

top (flat part of the dizzy)
3 4
1 2

Well which motor do you have the notch on the bottom you took the pic for is for the D16 motors, you need to line up the lines on the sides of the cam shaft...so if they are in line with the head and the crank pulley is lined up then your cam timing is ok...dizzy timing is also different....

As Highmilehatch asked whats up with the car, not starting or not running properly...

Check the screw that holds the rotor on in the dizzy, had that fall out before and cause what you are talking about...also sounds like the firing order could be off...

I think your firing order is off. Redo the wires how I showed you.

Notice where the flat (top) part of the dizzy is in this pic:

On the SOHC, the dizzy is tilted towards the front of the car. You still need to set up the wires based on where the flat (top) part of the dizzy is.

yea i was using the order in the diagram listing in the first post. Im more then sure that is correct. Again the car will not start at all, just pop and grumbles. The dizzy there are 3 screws that look like you can adjust those. Anything with those can be wrong?

this is the diagram

If your still using that picture, and looking at the dizzy from the passenger side, it's wrong. The pic your using doesn't have a reference to where the flat part of the dizzy is.

Why are you making this harder than it needs to be? The bottom picture of the Z6 is the exact same thing I've been trying to tell you. Notice how the dizzy is tilted towards the front of car, flat part on the top, notice the placement of the wires.

Check your grounds too, the thermostat ground is a common "no start" problem, make sure its connected...

Ingnore the bottom notch, you only need the 2 on the sides for the D15
