Anyone used a helicoil before? I think I need one for a brake caliper...

Just wondering if anyone on here has used a helicoil and if they've had any success with it. I could probably drill and tap the hole to be slightly larger than it was, but then I would also need to drill the backing plate out some, and I'd rather just stay with the 'stock' bolt size...
I believe WKDerf has used one and so did Rob with his STi (cant think of his username ATM) but figured I'd post here to see what others have used them for, and for those who have no idea what it is, now you do.

How It Works: http://www.ersco-mi.com/helicoil1.html

Helicoil Partially and Fully Installed

They work great..I have used plenty to repair manifold stud threads in the head..Just take your time with the drill and tap and make sure it is nice and straight..They are very strong..

yeah the only thing i'm wondering about is if i helicoil the caliper, and its not dead on as far as placement and angle, i'd be fuxored when i try to bolt it onto the backing plate. it should go in straight, just worrying out loud here.
edit: jump for joy because the google ad pertains to exactly what we're talking about, for me at least .

I love helicoils, talk to my buddy josh at JSperformance. Its not something the inexperienced should do.

finally fixed the caliper tonight in preparation of some sti drivetrain brembo goodness. fred gave me a big hand with it... we took our time and it turned out great. test fit and everything looks perfect. just figured i'd bump this cause its a great solution to an otherwise crappy problem.

troll, I'm in the same boat as you, I cross threaded a caliper bracket bolt the other night after finishing up my transmission swap. I was just wondered where you ordered/bought the helicoil from?

autozone baby.

a set of 10 coils alone was about $6, or you can get a kit with the proper tap, helicoil inserter tool, and 3 helicoils for $20-30 depending on size. (mine was $30). the only other thing you need with the kit is the proper sized drill bit, and it tells you what size that is with the kit.

my friend had to use one when he blew a spark plug out of the head on his lightning (which apparently happens a lot with those trucks) since he installed it, he truck has been fine, so i am sure it will work fine for your application
