Decision time..

Ok, i'm rather torn. I'm going to be getting a NICE pay check in 2 weeks. I mean nice. Should I...

purchase a cam and sit on it until I get headers, and buy some other small stuff...

OR

Should I just save it for the headers. The best headers for the Goat are Kook's, and they aren't exactly cheap. I want them done with a Flat Blue Jet Coat coating, as well as high flow cats. Around 1400$ will be the bill. Not "bad", but not "cheap".

A cam would be around 400$, but i'll need headers in order to let it breathe. With the cam, I could prolly also pick up a 78mm intake manifold, but i'd have to wait for a 78mm throttle body.

So choices are..

Save for headers...

Or

Buy a cam and throttle body or intake manifold now and just wait.

Oi.

Freaking breaks.

Go for the big guns. Get teh cams and everything else over time then to a mass install. It will be better since you can just get it tuned once and everything is done (not saying you gotta get it tuned everytime, but you know what I mean...).

Yea. I mean, I have various plans and such about what to do with my cash..I want to basically do cams/exhaust/headers with all induction mods (minus fuel rails) before a tune, since those CAN get expensive. Wanna get my money's worth, ya know?

Well, I don't want to discourage you from doing what you want... If you want to have some performance NOW, by all means go ahead and get the headers. Performance is performance.

However, when you look at it in the long run... Will it really matter that you waited a few paychecks longer to get all your crap together and get Cams, IHE, etc etc and tuned once? Will it really matter that you stayed at stock power for another month or two? I would just get it all done at once since that will re-instill a ton of new-ness into the car when you get it done... You know what I mean?

Yes sir, I certainly do.

Now the only true question is...cam and intake manifold? Or cam and fuel rails possibly? baH!

Uh... Cams, do a self mild PnP on the stock manifold and get fuel rails... Then again I don't know much about how a restriction the stock manifold is non-subarus....

Headers! Get the exhaust flowing before you install cams. What duration are you looking for? Your stock fuel system should hold up well for the time being look elsewhere untill you need to upgrade. It just sounds like wasted money to me for a mani and fuel rail!

He won't install the cams before the headers anyway. I say do both at once since the mutual performance gain will be more than enough.

I agree not installing the cam untill you have a free flowing exhaust. I would do them both at the same time. I am also not sure on how well the stock GTO mani flows. Might just get away with a port and polish of the stock one.

If your building the car for 1/4. V8's love nitrous.

Yea, nitrous would def be in the cards.

I decided that i'll do cams and then see what a Pnp will do me. I've seen setups at 90mm and 78mm, with the stock being 75 mm, so i'm gonna do some research as to what is preferred. I figured id secure both ends- induction and exhaust- before the cam install. No need to suffocate my engine!

Next thought...78 or 90 (to Pnp it to)?

And cams im looking at 228/230 and under .600 lift. Maybe a .113LSA. Anyone have any suggestions?! And what does the install run normally on those?
