this was a big week for me

i'm sure some of you know i went home to seattle for christmas to visit my family, but what most of you are not aware of is what an important trip it was for me. when i was born my mom was 16 or 17 and my dad was 21, they never got married and i just recently found out my mom actually went to have an abortion but was to far along. as soon as i came home from the hospital i stayed with my grandparents, when i was 3 they legally adopted me. my mom was always a loser, she has been a poor excuse for a parent for aslong as i can remember, but at least ( at times ) she tried to be a parent. my father on the otherhand, i hardly ever knew.. he was addicted to heroin since he was about 25, he tried to clean up a few times but was never successful. when i was about 11 everything seemed like it was finnaly working out, he was doing good for himself and was almost finished with his journeymen thing for work, then one day he just left and i didn't see or hear from him again. oh well, i got over it as much as i could and went on with me life. then out of nowere i got a letter in the mail from him, it was stamped with the WA prison ( department of corrections ) stamp that it was from an inmate. i read the letter and found out why he left, were he had been.. not good news. he was manufacturing meth to support himself and his habbit. fortionatly for him he was sentenced under the DOSA ( drug offender sentincing alternative ) he got a little bit of time instead of a **** ton, but he had to do inpaiteint drug treatments and stuff. he was released in january of last year ( right after i had moved to philly ) so i didn't get to see him, we kept in touch and finnaly had a chance to meet up when i was in town.

so here is my dad, this is the day after christmas and was the best gift ever, i know 99% of you don't give a **** but for the few that might, keep him in your prayers and hope that he stays on track this time. my grandpa died in march 03 and was the only dad i really ever knew ( legally, he was my father because they adopted me and i have always called him my dad ) i feel like i was given a second chance and to have a father and i'm very greatful

stay close to your love ones as much as you can because once there gone, there gone forever. drugs take over peoples lifes and some people cant see that. glad you got back together and can forget the past. be honored and grateful you have yours still around. i lost my father my senior year of hs to a car accident. i miss him alot. once again hold your loved ones dearly...

That's a pretty damn cool story! I'm glad and relieved that you actually accepted your Dad back, as so many people are too hardheaded to realize it's still their family.

Good for you, and congrats on the reunion.

I can completely understand why it was so important for you. Meeting someone again and finding out what kind of person they are can be one of the most eye opening times of your life. I was there this holiday too but your story seems to be on a different magnitude. Good luck with everything, glad to hear that he's getting his life back on track.

Man, congratz to you, I'm adopted as well, I grew up in reading pretty much of my life, and my dad threw me and my mom out when I was 11 months;and she was only 14. Always keep your fam if you can man. I wish I would've had a fam were I lived, unfortunetly the street was it. Juss keep your head straight and use him as an example, and good luck to him and you.

Your family makes you who you are, no matter how messed up it might be. Youre never gonna get where youre goin if you deny where you came from. Good for you, it takes a lot of forgiveness and acceptance to welcome your father back in to your life after everything that has happened between the 2 of you. Im happy for you.
