tein s techs blow... all looks at the expense of hurting performance. tein h techs are a decent choice though. when i was buying my car one of the main differences was the 'sport' suspension offered on the WRX but i have no technical info to back that up. i believe they take the same springs but like i said in the pm, call someone who sells a lot of them and get a definite.
you could also get perrin springs which are really nice. i have a set of 04+ (WRX or STi) Perrins brand new for sale if you are interested.

if you are sticking with the stock struts, don't drop your car more than .5" to 1". You can order custom springs from eibach(and for fairly cheap). And you can't beat their million mile warranty. so as long as you know what spring rates you want, the OD of the coil, and the length of the springs eibach is a great choice. They have a catalogue of standard springs they have in stock. I think 8" or 10" is the stock length. I ordered 10" springs with my Ground Control coil sleeves and I placed them next to my stockers, and they were the same length. I don't know about the '06's though.
Given that though, You can choose how much you want to drop your car by. here is the catalogue of their springs: http://eibach.com/eibach/img/ers-catalog-2004.pdf What kind of handling do you want to get out of new springs? A la more oversteer? More neutral handling? Last edited by ILikeItSideways; 11-22-2006 at 09:55 AM. |

Stay FAR FAR away from the Tein s-techs, they are the worst springs ever. After I rid myself of the trash S-Techs i got prodrives and LOVED them. Perfect drop, IMHO, and the handling was amazing. I had them matched up with a set of KYB AGX's and a 22mm rear sway bar with perrin end links and the car felt real nice.
Good luck on the decision and enjoy!

ok i get it, it makes sense now... you just want to make sure nobody every mistakes you for someone who has even an ounce of worry for anything performance oriented. now that i realize this a heavy weight has been lifted from my shoulders!

Just FYI. They worth taking a look at. I can vouch for them as can several auto-x'ers and even some pro rally guru's. |

Personally I will go with the prodrives when I set up my car - They drop the car like an inch to an inch and a half and have stiffer rates which you want. On another note the Prodrive springs are produced by eibach I believe

The sti pinks only drop my car like 20 mm or something like that. I will look into the prodrives. Can anybody vouch for any othe product?
I just found Perrin Tunersport Springs for my car that lower 1.9 f and 1.5 rear, can anybody tell me if perrin springs are nice and how stiff they are?

you dont plan on putting the Ground Controls on your stock struts do you? The dampening rate on the stock struts is not enough for a linear rate spring such as the GC's. You WILL destroy the struts as well as have a very harsh an unpredictable ride. bad mojo my friend. I really dont think you will like GC's for everyday driving. You should go with a progresive rate spring set up. The autocross guys like them because of the stiffness.

My advice would be, consider your long term goal regarding your suspension setup, then make the proper choice.
If you don't, you're just pissing away money. If you really want to make the car handle, coilovers like the Tein Type Flex are probably more in line with what you're looking for. If you just want to lower your car, grab some Eibach springs and be done with it. Just remember, that if you use nearly any aftermarket lowering spring with your stock shocks/struts, they're going to blow them out. They weren't designed to work with those springs. Best bet is to replace both at the same time. But like I said, evaluate what your long term goal is before you drop $500-600 on springs/struts and decide what you want to do. It sucks waiting to make it happen, but in the long term, you spend a lot less money because you didn't buy a setup you won't be happy with and have to change it again.

My ultimate goal is to autox this car. I want to lower my car at leat a little bit, but i'm way more worried about performance. I want a stiff spring. My brother had gc's on his spec-v and never had any problems and his car handled like it was on rails
