Rally In the Dark TSD Feb. 26 Philly SCCA

This was posted on NASIOC today. I'm signing up but I need a navigator. Anyone?

I'd love to do a TSD. Count me in if you don't locate an experienced Nav'er.

I can pretty much figure it out... Hey, we can even do a dry run and see if we can train a bit.

Jim, thanks for the offer but I already had a navigator.

We were owned on the 2nd leg. The instructions threw in a trick that humbled most of us. We had to DNF after an hour driving in circles because we couldn't get passed that instruction.

That was definitely a tricky course for novices, like my dad and I. We were both really happy that we completed the course. It was so much fun! I can't wait for the next road rally!

Were you the white lancer with the stars?

It was fun until we got lost right at the start of leg 2, then I was pissed for remainder of the rally. My navigator and I stopped talking! But we went drinking afterwards and everything was okay again.

Yeah I was the driver of the Lancer with my dad as my navigator. We got lost in the very beginning and had to take a time allowance, but we got back on course and then we did pretty well. I was definitely stressed when we got lost, but once we got back on course, it was all good. I couldn't really get mad at my navigator, considering that he's my dad and he did a really good job considering it was his first time and my first time. Which car were you?

I was the #18 blue STi. I think we had a very brief conversation later at the pizza joint.

We also got lost during the odometer calibration. I think it was the 3rd instruction for making the right turn. The next instruction said to stay left at the Y which we found so we thought we were good. But that put us onto Rt 202 and nothing mades sense afterwards. We doubled back but the control car had already left the first checkpoint.

I think we did talk briefly after the rally. Your car is very nice. It's a really nice color blue. Mine's my first car and was paid for by my dad, so I really can't complain, I'm just trying to save for a turbo or a new car in a few years...and hoping my dad will buy a fast car for himself and let me drive it ;)

For the odometer calibration, we also got a little confused, but we could see the car in front of us, so we made sure not to lose them. The "jog" would have lost us if it weren't for the car in front of us. Oh well, there's always next time. I'm really glad that I tried a road rally because obviously my car isn't the fastest, so it was nice to have an event that I could actually have a chance to compete in and not know beforehand that I'm not even a real competitor. I just wish there were events closer to my area, I drove to and from the rally (1.5 hr each way), plus the rally time. Definitely worth it though.

We spoke to the guys in the #17 green F150. They said if we stick close to them, we won't get lost. However we lost them from the start and they ended up winning. Oh the irony!

At one point I saw a white Lancer go the opposite direction and contemplated turning around and following it. However it had a hood vent and I didn't remember your car being an EVO. Irony #2, turning around would've been the correct course change!

This rally was only 40 minutes away for me, further for my navigator. I still had fun and I'm already making plans for the next rally.

We took some photos before the rally.
I'm on the left, my navigator James is on the right.

Here I cleaned a spot for the numbers.

Haha, that is really ironic. We lost the people in front of us after the odometer calibration and then we got lost almost immediately afterward. I don't remember passing you going the opposite direction and as much as I wish my car was an Evo, it's definitely not. I guess that was some other random car. We got lucky and only had to turn around a couple of times. My main problem was trying to back up on a dirt road at night, without hitting the side of a mountain. It was a pretty close call, but my car remained scratch-free. I'm also making plans for another rally and maybe some solo events just for fun. I iwsh I had some pics, but I forgot my camera. Oh well, next time I'll post some pics.

I just got an email saying that after reviewing the scores, we got 3rd in the Novice class! I can't wait to tell my dad, afterall he did have the more difficult job, in my opinion.
