the girlfriend is wanting a new phone that plays MP3's and could be used in the same way as the Slvr. As I've been waiting to move over to t-mobile, I was considering unlocking my Slvr, keeping that, and getting something else when I start the new contract that plays MP3's, or is capable of downloading winamp mobile, or some other MP3 program.

Any recommendations?

t629 is pretty cool but i can't imagining getting good service. As a rule of thumb the samsunngs have the best features and get the worst service i guess it is a toss up of what you want.

service is definatly important since we'll be using the phones to talk to each other during the week. Is there any phone that can have an MP3 player downloaded? something with an external memory card?

I have the T809 from samsung, it plays mp3 and you can get up to a 1gig memory card. Good phone, they also have the version with porsche bearings for an extra 150 dollars haha.
