Pool Help

Shocked my pool like crazy two weeks ago to get rid of major algae problem. Water is sparkling clear now, but the chlorine level is through the roof. How do I get it back down to normal?

I now someone on here works with pools (can't remeber who though).

You would probably have to drain a % of the water and replace it. That makes sense to me, its kinda like dealing with a saltwater fishtank. Maybe there is a neutralizer you could purchase to even things out.

don't shock it for awhile, or add sticks, and keep a close eye on your chlorine level.

if it stays up real high for awhile its in a chlorine lock and to break that you acutally need to shock it.

After the rain tonite, all should be well with your chlorine levels.

Basic pool chemistry...

Always check and adjust Total Alkalinity first: 90-120ppm
Next, adjust pH: 7.4-7-8
Then adjust your chlorine: 1.0-2.5ppm

If that fails and algae continues to grow, get a jackhammer and a bulldozer and fill that f'r full of dirt, cause you shouldn't own a pool

If the pool is outside in the northeast, it MUST be winterized. Pool heaters are not designed to operate in temperatures less than 40 degrees ambient temperature or less than 50 degrees water temp. It has been attempted, but rarely with success. I make lots of money repairing freeze damage for those folks who insist on trying....

I did it last year. worked fine. I was taking dips in my hot tub when it was like 20 degrees outside. lol

My test kit only has color indicators for pH and chlorine. Do I have to get another test kit for alkalinity?

And, how would I adjust my chlorine? I need to lessen the amount of chlorine and I don't know how to do that.
