RANT: of the day convertible owners

Why do they HAVE to keep the top down even when it's like mid-to-low 50's?

I was driving to work today, and saw a middle aged man driving a saab with the top down, and he was all bundled up in a jacket.

because having the top down automatically makes you 10 years younger.

mid-life crisis ftw

Same reason why people with BOV's make them whistle seemingly every chance they get.

Or why Harley riders rev their loud pipes at lights.

It's simple - if you got it, flaunt it.

I dunno. I think I had the top up more than I had it down. Its gotta be nice out for me to do it. Though, come springtime, it comes down in the 50's (because it feels like 90s after how cold winter is).

My top is ALWAYS up. Putting the top down effects performance, I also like my artificial air (a/c and heat) too much. If you ever see my driving my windows are 99.99% up as well. Even the S2k guys are like Ray it's 80 degrees, it's a nice day, why don't you put your top down? My reply: It'll mess up my hair!!

It cuts down on wind noise and cross wind. Thats why a lot of vert owners install that mesh between the front and back seats.

I personally dont do it, but that is the reason. My audio system more than compensates for any increased wind.

I gotta tell ya, driving with the top down is a great experience, and I do it at every chance I get.

Does it cut down on performance? Maybe. I don't care. When I'm cruising down the highway, the last thing on my mind is shaving thousandtsh off of my quarter mile. It's all about the wind, the road, the noise and the sun. Period.

Will I drive top-down in the cold? Sure. I sit at a computer under the roof of an office building all day. The more sky-time I get on the road, the happier I am. If it's chilly, I'll wear a coat, gloves, and a scarf. That's what they're for, keeping you warm when you would be cold, right?

Have I driven top-down in the rain? Yup. Probably will again. Never intentionally, but I've been caught a couple of times, and didn't bother to pull over and put the top up. Anywhere over 40 Mph, and everything but the strongest of downpours goes right up and over. No big deal.

Do I drive top-down with the windows up? No, just the passenger side. At highway speeds, it cuts down on some of the nasty wind buffeting the back of my head. I don't care how it looks. It makes the drive more comfortable. I'm out to have fun, not to impress you.

So yeah. Some people get driving enjoyment out of time slips and dyno charts. Some from blowing away ricers at a red-light drag race. Some folks just like driving with the top down. We all love cars in our own ways, and really, who's to say that's wrong? Enjoy your car, drive it in a way that's safe for everyone else on the road, stop hating, and leave me and my drop top alone.

its not all that cold when youre the one driving when the top is down, it really sucks for the people in the back though. i love riding with the top down and also do it every chance i get but i def put the windows down. actually the windows go down with the top and thats a feature i think all verts should have so said people dont look ridiculous with the windows up and top down

Funny, the back of my car is pretty warm, even when the top is down.

Of course, the back seat of my car is also called the trunk.

Convertables are great fun, and are bar none the best visablilty around. Have you ever noticed in a miata the visor says the back seat is the safest place for children? And if you want to stay warm in a miata with the top down, Turn on the heat to defrost and floor, It creates a nice updraft and canopy that keeps you pretty warm!
