whats everyone think of the new...

concept for the pontiac grand prix...not approved yet by gm but they are pretty much pushing this car cause the gto was considered a huge flop...its supposed to be a 6.0 liter 362 hp sedan...still a grand prix!! haha...im not a fan, but wondering what everyone else thinks

Well, that car is not really a "concept" it is a production car in Australia that they want to bring to the US as a Grand Prix replacement. The car is a Holden VE-SS and is the first car to ride on GM's new Zeta platform. Zeta is probably the most advanced mass production RWD IRS system ever. The VE is the replacement for the Commodore/Monaro line off of which the GTO was built. I personally like the car and can tell you right now that it was manufactured from the beginning to meet US standards, I would say there is a pretty good chance you will see this car in a year or so here in the US. The only change that will probably be made is the use of either the LS2 or L92 as the base engine with 400+ horsepower. GM is on a mission to re-identify their brands and Pontiac is being turned into a premium RWD performance car division, essentially Holden USA.

I also wouldn't say that they are pushing this car because the GTO was a flop. They are two cars with very different purposes. This car is a legitimate 4 door competitor to BMW. Also, I would argue with you about the GTO being a flop. Given, they didn't sell like hot cakes, but anyone who has driven one or owns one will tell you in a second that it is one of the best domestic cars available from '04-'06. The build quality in the GTO's (and Holden's in general) are way ahead of the rest of the GM family. The car is powerful, comfortable and refined and a damn good alternative to a 3 series BMW to those looking for more performance for less money.

As for the "haha" comment about Grand Prix's, considering that most Grand Prix GT's and GTP's (4 door FWD "family cars") would wipe the floor with your Mustang, you may want to reconsider that.

Didn't know I was being mean. Just stating that Grand Prix's really aren't a joke if you're driving a '98 Stang.

All I have to say is for a 6.0L engine, I would expect more then 362hp.

That's the Aussie motor that was in the car that Lutz and Wagoner drove at the GM proving grounds. It's the 6.0L Vortec truck engine. There was something funky with new emissions laws in Australia that forced them to use that engine in the first model year until the L92 was ready or the LS2 could be certified. The L92 is a 6.2L motor expected to be over 425 horses and the LS2 would be the 6.0L 400 horse model we have here now.

The motor that was in the test car they brought here, is not going to be the engine in that car if they do start selling it.

Well at least that is somewhat better news, if you are interested in the new car if it comes out.

i wasnt questioning the car as in it beating my car or even bringing into consideration the gtp's...so i dont know why you even brought that up...i know it would beat my car and i could care less cause i personally like my car better than this...after saying that, my car is nothing right now, bone stock and not planning on doing alot to it...i have other dreams...so i dont know why you attacked me..i was asking everyones opinion on the grand prix...i personally like the gto...but the company did consider it a flop or a failure because no one bought them due to the raised price that occured...im not a fan of sedans and didnt like the styling of this car...i was just wondering what everyones opinion on it was...thanks
eric

I'm with you, this dissing of your car was just kinda random and out of left field. As for the GTO and this new Grand Prix, I like them, always liked pontiacs for some reason. It'll hafta be pretty special to sway me from my saab though.

I guess I owe you an apology Eric. I didn't realize that when you typed "haha" after Grand Prix it was something you always do. It seemed to me like you were dissing on the line in general.

I used to have a 1998 Mustang GT, that was my DD and occasional road race car. I have always been a big Mustang fan, so don't take what I said as a diss on your car, more of a sticking up for the Grand Prix.

When I saw the Article, I said to myself finally, they ruined the prix, but this looks sooo much better/Faster.... like what it is suppose to be, not a crap box like the ones today.

There was an article in Motor Trend about this and it would cost GM in the range of $15-$20 million to make this thing legal for the us meaning emissions and safety regulations. I think it would be neat if GM did build this thing with the rumor of an all rwd Pontiac lineup floating around.
