Forum Rules: you are expected to know and follow them

Forum rules can be found at: http://www.tristatetuners.com/index.php?page=rules

Everything below is out of date!

I just wanted to highlight a few sections of the forum rules, originally located at: http://www.tristatetuners.com/viewtopic.php?t=402

There have been a few ripples in the water regarding the way that threads are moderated. Becuase of this I would ask that everyone make sure to reread the rules where these processes are outlined. It is important to read ALL of the rules, and all members are expected to follow them. The enlarged sections are no more or less important than the rest, they just apply directly to recent issues members have brought up.

If, now or in the future, anyone has an issue with the rules, please feel free to contact me about it. Also, the Suggestion Box is always open to the public for suggestions on how to improve the forum. However, if you feel the issue is more serious then please contact me privately about it.

Thanks,
Bryan

Overview
TriStateTuners.com is a public forum made available for the community to exchange valuable resources for enthusiasts in the local area. The general mood here differs from most forums in that everyone is, for the most part, very respectful, mature, and friendly.
In order to for the forum to operate smoothly and be user friendly, we require all members to abide the following rules.

General Rules
The first and most important rule is that everyone respects the other members of the forum. Disrespect of other members or the forum's rules will not be tolerated and can result in an immediate ban, without warning.
This forum is for information exchange related to the topics of each specific forum. If you cannot find a forum suitable for your topic, it belongs in the ìoff-topicî forum. It is extremely important to keep threads on topic as much as possible for the benefit of other forum members.
Direct and indirect advertising such as links in your signatures are not allowed. Commercial postings are only allowed by authorized TriStateTuners.com vendors. If you are a vendor and you would like to advertise on the site, please contact TROLL via PM or Email through the site.
Images are not allowed in signatures. Please use your avatar to display any photo you want associated with your identity.
Posts that do not abide by our rules may be moved or deleted without prior notification.

Searching
Before posting any problems or questions, please search for related posts which may answer your question. This is very important because a majority of the time the question has already been answered in great details. The search button is located on the top right of the forum, please take advantage of it.

Forum Identity
Please make sure you sign out of any public computers to avoid identity theft. "My friend logged onto my computer" or "I forgot to sign out of the public library" is no excuse. It is your responsibility to keep your account to yourself and we will not unban any members who claim that someone else got a hold of their account.

Abusive Behavior
Profiles, including signatures, with inappropriate content may be modified without prior notification.
Abusive behavior of any kind will not be tolerated and it can result in an instant ban with or without notification.
If you find anything inappropriate on the forum, please contact the moderator for that particular forum.

Some examples of abusive behaviors:

-Anything over PG-13
-Anything that you can get in trouble with by your boss or spouse
-Disrespecting other members
-Links to inappropriate sites
-Offensive pictures
-Racial stereotyping
-Spamming
-Advertising without permission

If you are unsure of what you're going to post is inappropriate, simply don't post it.
If you feel a forum moderator is abusing the forum rule, not acting ethical, or is abusing their power, please contact TROLL, the forum administrator. Include a link to the particular post, the name of the moderator, and a brief explaination of why you feel that you were treated unfairly.

Disclaimer
This site and forum moderators reserve the right to modify or delete any inappropriate content on the forums w/o prior notification. If you feel that your thread has been modified or deleted without a proper reason, please contact the moderators of that particular forum.

Addendum A
If you choose to refer to TROLL by his first name, you must spell it correctly. B-R-Y-A-N is the correct spelling, and is the only spelling that will be tolerated. Violation of this rule will result in a single warning, and a second violation will result in bannination.

I think this topic needs a bump.

I just thought about how many 'regulars' I haven't seen in a while. Jess, Matthew, the chick with the Firebird, and quite a few others have been very scarce lately.

I too go through ups and downs with a bunch of forums, and I believe the reason to be such large post numbers. Its hard to keep up with topics when theres 300 new ones and 50000 new posts. You go on vacation or something and its like you don't even want to try to figure out what you missed. I think we all need to try to keep it on topic and keep the posts meaningful.
I don't know if going off-topic will be our demise or not, but think about how you experience things. How frustrating is it to open a thread that starts out talking about apples and ends up talking about oranges? Then, after you're done reading 10 minutes of ONE thread, you think "I just wasted a good 10 minutes of my life on that?"

Anyway, this is my attempt to try to persuade some of you to stay in line. Unfortunately, this thread has less than 100 views, the "most off-topic thread ever" is now over 1300. Our retention rate seems to be slipping (no factual numbers to back this). Its great to bring new members to the board, however, lets try to keep them coming back! I.E., this is a thread "Mostly dedicated to tracking down the white evo chick." If by some stretch we got her to join, how would we get her to stay? Get it?

I miss the old regulars.

Very relevant to the topic. A perfect example of what Aaron is talking about...

I used to enjoy coming on to this board to post and read up on what others had to say but lately it just seems to be a waste of my time. I usually skip half of the threads because they are so off-topic or stupid that it isn't even worth my time. I think most of the regulars just browse through the forum and don't post as much. I may not be one of the "originals" but I was on the board when it first started to get big. I have seen a couple boards turn into one big lounge and I hope this board doesn't take that turn. The moderators have been doing a pretty good job trying to keep things in line, but some kind of improvement is still needed. My $.02

As relevant as your $.02 are. He didn't ask what you thought of the current forum.

News and Announcements is not as entertaining as Off Topic, hence less views. I'm glad you dislike my thread so much though.

My $.02 relate to the rules, your reply relates to an off topic issue. Since you are the "TST Rule Enforcer" I figured you would know the difference. I also love how you feel that saying 'back on topic' is an excuse to post whatever b.s. you want before it. Instead of saying "I think", I should have said "I know". I know why some users no longer come on here and post, most of it is because of threads like this. This thread is in the News & Announcements forum and could have been locked after Bryan posted. By leaving it open it allowed people to voice their opinions on the rules.
Don't you have to go post about hooking up with Sandra in some other thread??

Bryan, by all means please delete my posts if you don't feel they are appropriate. Sorry to waste everyones time with more useless banter.

So you stop crying at my "B.S". I enforce the rules at the meets, so we don't lose another spot because of the idiots.

I personally feel that the posts go off topic, and will continue to go off topic because most of the forum members know each other. We have hungout in more ways then just at the meets.

As for the "old" members, when I first got here it was the same stuff. The forum hasn't gotten worse or better. Just larger and it's a good thing. Before, posts would go off topic, and it was "ok" because they were "original." I find that ironic. I guess as you climb down the ladder of friendships or ass-kissing, you are allowed to do less.

I noticed a big change. I think I was on here pretty early and it's good it's grown, but along w/that came this huge wave of BS that just inundated the board. In the beginning it was a much more mature forum. Now you get all these people that seem to live on the board every waking moment of the day and just post, post, post. Just look at all the original guys/gals that don't even post anymore. I doubt more than 10% of the people here would even recognize a lot of the people from the beginning. I definitely thought it was on a downhill slide going the way of DSR But the mods have done a good job and I'm still holding out hope.

You're wrong. I LOVE the thread. I think its perfect. Its a thread about being "off-topic" so everything is fair game. If a passerby doesn't want to deal with the BS, s/he can choose to skip that thread. The issue here is that we are getting a lot of clear-cut topics going way off into either racing or sith talking threads.

Example: Thread about how an apple tastes: I want to know if they are sour.
Somebody could go a few different directions here: bitter, sour, sweet, etc. However, there are a lot of other directions it can go. Apples also have a firmness, texture, color, size etc. So another person now goes into the color of the apple. Now that we're on color, orange is a cool color, so somebody brings oranges into it. Now we have a whole new array. We can talk about the texture, size, color, and ripness of oranges. Before you know it, we have people discussing how to disect an orange for its seeds to grow orange trees. The guy that wants to know how the apple tastes still has no clue. Other people *searching* for apple flavors have no positive information out of the thread, and the thread is useless. Enough useless threads and you have a useless forum.
