1zzfe Toyota Celica members on here?

I need help finding someone who knows a lot about the new Celicas. My little brother just blew the motor in his 00' GT (timing chain jumped a tooth) and I need info about whether he can swap in the GT-S 2zz motor/trans. I can't really even find any good informative Celica forums with the info. Anyone have any ideas? I think i've seen a member on here with a celica.....

you can do it... of course, that also means ECU that needs to purchased as well. the 3S-GTE motor should bolt up... the real question would be if the hood can close all the way

^^^ My questions is why are you looking to swap the motor??? The celica engine is a non-interference motor. This can be fixed. If he blew the motor, then something else is wrong. The motor will not blow because the timing belt jumped a tooth. I'm very familiar with Toyotas as is all I work on and drive. As a matter of fact, as an example, i drove a camry with two teeth out of timing for months without a problem other then power loss. If this is the case, this can be fixed.

I just finished a swapping a 1ZZFE back into a 2001 GT because the customer spun a rod bearing. It seems to be pretty common, because these engines just can't take repeated abuse like some others. If your interested in getting the car back on the road with the original engine, contact me.

I understand that the engine is a non-interferance motor, but the timing chain must have jumped more than a few teeth in that case.... I have not personally seen the internals of the motor, but the mechanic says every piston is damaged, so I would imagine the rods are bent, valves are bent, etc... Instead of digging around replacing internals it is probably easiest to just swap the motor, like I said the 1zzfe Corolla motor is "supposed" to be the exact same thing and they go for about $400-800 for a 00'+

How does your mechanic know the pistons are blown?? Did he do a compression test?? Maybe you're not giving all the info of what exactly happened to the engine. - Correction, I'm so used to working on Supra engines and they are belt that sometimes I refer to everything as belts. yes the 2000-2005 celicas use chains.

That's okay I knew what you meant. I have personally never heard of a timing chain jumping a tooth. Maybe a tensioner went bad? Sorry I don't know many cars that even use a timing chain, but I assume they have some type of tensioner...lol I wouldn't doubt it that my brother is not getting all the info about what actually happened. I am just the one they asked to help find a motor for it, so I figured my bro is already getting screwed enough having to replace the motor maybe I can save him a few bucks (or thousand) by using the Corolla 1zzfe. His old motor had over 100k on it, so it's not like it was a baby, but still shouldn't have happened. I have been reading so many horror stories about the new Celicas, seems like the 2zz is an even more unreliable motor! Well, I would really appriciate it if a Toyota Tech on here could verify that I am not crazy and that a 1zzfe from a 00'+ Corolla would swap in (using the intake manifold/exhaust manifold and sensors from the old motor) I would be soooo appriciative. If it was my car I would be looking into what 'actually' happened too, but I am just not in that position.....just trying to help him out...

Steve

Philly-Night-SR, my shop is www.street-solutions.com and you are correct about the Corolla engine. If you were to get a VVTI Corolla longblock it will work. There are however, some changes that need to be made. You have to drill and tap the block of the Corolla in three precise spots in order to bolt up the Celica intermediate shaft. There are a few sensors that need to be swapped, as well as some swapping of the coolant lines coming from the back of the water pump. I've done this exact swap before, so if you want someone with experience to do it, contact me-215-962-1423.

Here are some pics of the drilling and tapping that I had to do:

I seem to be a little late to the party here, lol. If you have any more questions that haven't been answered, PM me. I have had my motor in/out/apart more times than its worth.

If you want to go 2ZZ, we can do that for you also.

the 3sgte will not bolt into 2000+ (aka 7th gen celicas). it would take large amounts of custom fab work (custom motor mounts, custom intake manifold, etc) to make that swap happen.

it is only a direct bolt in for 80ish(4th gen) through 99 celica GT's (6th gen) with lots of custom rewiring of the harness.

Bump this back up.

The Corolla 1zzfe motor swap went well, for a month and a half. Now the new motor is having problems too. Mechanic thinks the valvetrain is damaged from and over-rev (high RPM downshift I assume), but I listened to the car and it also sounds like a slight rod knock. The knock only occurs at a certain RPM. Oil level was okay at the time. I Pulled the plugs and they look okay. My brother swears up and down he didn't over-rev it, I really want to believe him, but I don't know... The mechanic wants to replace the valvetrain with Toyota parts (non-adjustable lifters) and quoted my brother at $1,700.....but he also said, that might fix the top end, but if there's a spun bearing or something in the bottom end it is worthless. I talked to John from Street-Solutions and I am going to try to get the car down there so he can hear the issue and see if it's worth fixing or just junking the motor and swapping in another. The car is in Montgomeryville if anyone local who's experienced in this type of **** would want to hear it run. This Celica is the biggest headache I've ever seen in my life and it's not even my car

.....any ideas?
