My bugeye is acting strange

On my way in to work tonight I hit the gas to go around a car and my RPM's shot up 6,500 and the car didn't pick up speed. I was doing about 70 and was in fifth gear, I didn't downshift. Afte that the car acted normal but for a few minutes there was an odd burning smell in the car that dissapeared pretty quick. Also a few times this week I've started the car after it was sitting for over 8 hours and I see smoke come out of the exhaust. The only mods on the car are a cat back exhaust, up-pipe and a high flow filter in the stock airbox.

Hopefully this is nothing I am having a ****ty enough week as it is lol.

Forgot to mention it's an 02 WRX with 58K on it.

you sure you didn't accidently have your foot on the clutch as you got excited by actually passing a car in that slow thing? Hope everything goes well and good luck, maybe a subie expert will confirm.

Would the upgraded clutch from Subaru give me any issues?

i meant a subaru clutch... just factory, or a very tame aftermarket clutch. if you go with anything thats much stronger than stock it will certainly transfer extra stress to the gears themselves, and you dont want that.

I use the Stage 1 ACT clutch and it's pretty good - been used for 15k miles no issues on stock tranny. Grabs a bit harder than stock clutch but removes that bit of "safety net" you get with a stock clutch.

ACT HD=tranny killer.

I broke mine in 2 days after being off the dyno. haha

Like Joescooby said, exedy stage 1 is around $750 installed out the door and they aren't too much stiffer than stock so that would be your best choice.

Well I paid alittle over a grand for both, which also included install.

a grand.. when i was young that was alot of $

now its in my transmission.

lol

Its a good deal though! They had my stuff in and out in like 4 hours. Might as well do your shifter bushings since they are under there anyway.

I apologize. I forgot that you had the flywheel also. That's such a steal, $1,000 out the door for clutch, flywheel, and installation!

That's not too bad, I already have a set of Kartboy shifter bushings in. I'm taking the car over to 1320 on saturday night to see what they think and then go from there.

Well talked to the guys over at 1320 tonight and it looks like it is going to be heading in there in the next few weeks. I am just going to go with the SPT clutch and an Exedy flywheel.

The exedy flywheel is still going to put stress on the gears in your tranny. I don't remember if it says you have an 02 or 03, but my tranny is definitely starting to feel the affects of beating the **** out of it...

And you are smoking out of your exhaust? I'm not sure if clutch smoke would come out of your exhaust, but I don't think it would at all. You might want to take a look at your turbo. Mine started puffing and come to find out, it was almost toasted.

*UPDATE*
The new clutch and flywheel went in on saturday night and it feels fantastic. Sometime tomorrow I will be doing a vendor review for 1320, not to spoil it but it will be a VERY positive review.

Summary: I got the Exedy Stage 1 clutch kit, Exedy Flywheel, Royal Purple tranny fluid and ATE Super Blue fluid for the rear diff.
