Should I get a Bike?

So i am really really considering getting a Motorcycle. I want to get a Suzuki GSXR600. I used to race mountain bikes and i can ride a dirt bike so i kind of know how to ride. Before i do anything i am taking a safety course. Any input?

My background prior to getting my street bike was all dirt bikes and ATV's. I found the transition to be very easy. The MSF course is great.

My biggest advice? Watch out for everyone else and be alert at all times and always drive below your max capability, leave room for error.

Yah!!! Buy mine@!@#!@#!@

2004 R-6 6000$
little over 1200 miles.

Even though I am selling mine, riding a motorcycle is a great experiance. I had 3 in the last 5 years. All suzuki (bandit, 03 GSX-R 600), except for my latest bike, the one that I have always wanted. The R-6

You wont regret buying one!!

Like drift said, watch out for everyone else if you do get a bike. Ive known 18people in the levittown area that have gone down since April. Only 2 off the accidents were the riders fault, all of the others were caused by cars not paying attention. So make sure you are always on the lookout

My only comment is that they don't call them donorcycles for nothing. Be careful if you won't be persuaded not to ride.

I am pretty much sold on the gixer 600. I love the look of the bike and it seems like it would be a great started bike. I will be very careful though. I want to buy new because i never got to buy a new car or truck (i have both) and now i have the chance to buy a new bike so i figure i might as well. The oppurtunity just kind of presented itself and i have always wanted one. Blueandgoldsti can i take a look at your bike sometime?

the gixer 600 is definitely a good bike to start on. it is very light and easy to handle. too bad you didnt decide to get one in june, they were running a special, $100/month for 60 months. that was probably the main reason i bought one. yeah, you can look at mine, but youll have to come to me since i cant ride for awhile. oh, and i have an extra fender eliminator kit ill sell you real cheap!

I know first hand how dangerous motorcycles can be. My father's friend was killed a few years ago by some women who ran a light because she was talking on a cell phone ...my dad missed the car by inches

Either way...I just bought a Ducati Monster and am looking for people to ride with so you should defiantly get one!

P.S. Absolutely take the MSF Course...I am taking both the BRC and the ARC

Very good idea.

Not to sway this too far off topic...anyone want to teach me...either on a bike or on a quad or something??

its really not that hard to learn. as long as you have decent coordination bc you have to use both hands, and sometimes both feet, all at the same time, while still looking out for cars and other hazards. i went to the cornwells park and ride for about 2 hrs when i bought my bike. after that i felt confident enough to ride (slowly) on the road and gradually picked up confidence to go faster and through the twisties. theres a great book i read, cant remember the name of it, but it gives you a lot of info about every aspect of riding. i would read a chapter or 2 during my lunch break then practice when i got home at night. it helped tremendously. i can find out the title if anyone is interested.

Yeah find the title of that.

My friend is trying to get rid of an older Ninja for like 400 smackers...so I'm thinking about picking it up and learning on that.

i texted my friend who let me borrow it. ill let you know when he gets back to me. it was written by an ex-AMA rider and explains all about balance, weight distribution, and going through different turns/twisties. Definitely a good source of info.

Hardest thing for most people to grasp is counter steering and avoiding target fixation.

Took me a while to understand countersteering. It seems so...un-intuitive.

Target fixation can kill you on a bike. It is a habit/natural tendency that must be broken.

when you say counter-steering, do you mean pushing the handlebars in the opposite direction of the turn to make the bike lean? if so, yes that is a very hard concept to grasp at first. when i first read that, i was thinking wtf, then i tried it and i could go through turns 10-20 mph faster just by doing that. as for target fixation, just remember to look where you want to go and your body/bike will follow.

Hey Drew, why don't you call me sometime. I'm more then a little upset about getting threatened by your father, so maybe you could straighten things out with me.
