I was raised a Christian and without being too much of a bible thumper.....

My dad was raised Jewish. My mom christian.

My dad, doing what all young men would do, converted. Then, later became a Pastor.

I sort of wandered from the path of glory, school, work, girls, etc., etc.

Anyway, my mom asked me lastnight to go to church with her this morning. I said, "Mom i dont know, I have work all night and then again at 3:30"

So my mom says "Yea, yea, a man-slut like you would melt if he stepped foot in a church again!"

I was pretty floored by what my freakin mom said. Maybe she planned it this way but that comment made me want to go to church, just to prove to her I wouldnt melt lol.

Anyway. I was sitting there being all depressed cause I felt so bad since I havent been there in awhile. I folded up a $100 bill and threw it in the plate when it came by.

Then later, on my way to lunch with my mom, what do I see? A $100 bill sitting on the ground. Right there, in the middle of the street.

My mom just said "Maybe you aren't such a whore. You just reiped what you have sewn"

Thats my serious rant for the day.

Not trying to make any converts, I surely act the least christian of anyone on these boards. However there are a few things I take very seriously, My job, my patients, and god.

Yeah, but there was still no profit. Think about if you didn't go to church and then went to lunch, you could've found that other $100 and been a little bit richer.

But how do you know that bill would have been there if I had slept in and not gone to church with my moms?

How do you know it wouldn't?

I know the post wasn't about the money, I'm just playing devil's advocate for fun. I was raised catholic too and haven't been to church in years. So I'd rather take the other side than start to feel bad that I don't even go to church on Christmas and Easter anymore.

ok, i was just making sure. and i understand you're playing devils advocate too, but its all a bunch of "what if's". nobody knows whether or not that bill would have been there had he not gone to church. maybe if he didnt go to church he would have lost his own $100 instead of finding one, never know.

does anyone here ever watch that christian channel on tv? i dont know what its called but its the one with the little shield looking thing on the corner of the screen. some of the shows they have on there are downright scary in the methods they use to get their point across. (this is what makes me watch, because i find it funny in a twisted way)

for example, i once caught a cartoon rendition of jonah and the whale, and throughout the whole cartoon, which is obviously aimed at impressible young children, they were telling them, through song, that they'd get eaten by a whale if they didnt do what god says. no, literally. those were pretty much the lyrics to the song they kept singing.

then just this weekend i saw a film from the 80's about a guy in high school who wishes he was a nonbeliever. then in "it's a wonderful life" fashion, he lives a day as a nonbeliever. due to him "not believing" they claim the following occured..

1. his parents divorced
2. his sister was never born
3. he owned an expensive car(from gambling)
4. he had 2 girlfriends
5. his friend commited suicide
6. one of his teachers quit teaching to become a waiter

he was also told that he shouldnt have a relationship until he's ready to get married(they didnt mean a SEXUAL relationship, just a relationship in general)

the next show after that was an instructional video about how to pass out a tract without offending people(though this process involved eventually calling the people liars and thieves)

so, my point? i just think its a little twisted the lengths that some religious zealots will go to scare you into religion. it's almost, dare i say it,.. nazi-esque

Or even drive your Mother to call you a man-whore to try and guilt you into church?

So do you think that GOD rewarded you for going to church against your will? Hahahaha.

I believe in GOD, but never in the institution. GOD probably doesn't care that you are funding the pastors Caddy.
