Sandisk Memory card HELP

I just bought a 2GB Sandisk SD card for my new Kodak V610 digital camera and it works fine on the camera and stored everything but when i put it in the computer it says this disk has not been formatted. would you like to format it now? and then i click format and it says "disk could not be formatted".

does anyone know why it's doing this. most cards i have, have the DCIM folder and one or two other folders. but i can't even format this one. can someone help me out please.

thanks guys

try formatting the disc in your camera... it should be in the menu somewhere. other than that, i really dont know, try to exchange it for another...

I dont have an SD card on me at the moment, but I seem to recall a white tab on the card that acts as a write protect toggle. If that is set to protect you cannot format the card. I dont know if you can still write to the card (IE take pictures on it) when it is protect mode.

Also wasnt there a size limitation to external drives for Win 95/98/Me? If you are using any of those OS's then that may be your issue. I hope to god you arent using anything other than XP, Mac, or some linux variant though.

I know about the lock on the card and i tried formatting it with it locked (just in case) and without it locked and the same thing happened.

and about the size limitation. my computer is about a year old and i have windows XP proffessional but how do i figure out if there is a size limitation?

I don't have the ultra II but i i do have the 2GB. I didnt know they made it this big either haha. But when i went on the sandisk sight to see if it could help me any, i found 4GB SD cards.

Anyone else have any ideas? I'm going to try formatting it in my brother's older model kodak v530 because a memory card he let me borrow from that was formatted right and he used his camera to format it so...maybe.

On XP there isnt one, well realistically at least.

sounds like you have a defective media card. Is there a specific sandisk software utility you can use to format it? Are you using a card reader or the camera itself to access the card? Driver issue involving the media reader perhaps (whether it be the camera driver or whatever your media reader of choice is)?

If you cant format through the camera and cant take/review pics on it, sounds like its toast to me.

Apparently the problem is my Printer which i'm using as the card reader. because I went to my downstairs computer and put the disk directly into the tower's card reader and it worked just as it should.

But if it is the printer then i dont understand why a 512MB card works in the same slot but the 2GB wont. which leads me to think it's the computer that can only read to a certain size.

Actually, I would bet it is a limitation on the firmware of the printer itself. 2 gig is huge for a printer to handle. Have you tried accessing the card from your computer by attaching the camera via USB?

Basically, if you dont get the little icon near your clock that says "Windows detected new media drive" (or similar) it isn't going to work.

I bet your printer can only see up to 512 or maybe a gig. I'd check the manufacturer's website. I used to work for Staples and when HP came out with the photosmart printers w/media readers they (at the time) could only read up to 256.

I had this same exact problem with a generic 1 GB SD card. My advice is return it now! I lost so many pics from it randomly reformatting itself everytime it would be put into my computer reader. SOunds like a defective SD.
