Subwoofers shouldnt "pop"...

So im big on the electrical scene and fairly good with electronics. I recently baught a 12" JL audio W1 and a 12" Bazooka. I have the JL bridges (220 watts) and the Bazooka stationary, only to give the extra "thump" when the JL hits. But recently i moved my setup and turned my subs around so they face inward into the box. Now, when my subs hit a deep note, or a heavy hit, they make a loud pop. I think its from the cone, but im not sure. This noise did not occur before i moved my system around. Is this the cone hitting the box? My JL isnt blown...its only ran off of 220W! (i doubt it would be blown...)

please, feed back with ideas/comments/specs.

Here are some pictures of my setup.

A quaility Amp is always a good thing to have when dealing with car audio...I am curious...Why nto just buy two JL's and call it a day?

hahaha i agree with jessDUB on this one...not only is running 2 subs bad but how can you go from JL to bazooka? and IMO subs sound bad when they are turned around like that anyway...i think they are best facing outward...oh and that "popping" noise...thats your JL sub letting you know it doesnt like that bazooka sub and it should be removed asap and replaced with another W1

ANYWAY

lol yea i know, the one bazooka is there for a.."filler", just so there isnt a gaping hole in my box, JL's are expensive, im woking on it, hense the reason the bazooka isnt hooked up, and my bro hooked me up with the amp, since he got a new one. so what the hell, its better then nothing, correct? I just need a system to work right now. this isnt anything im trying to show off.

to be honest and im not trying to be rude its better to have nothing then to mix and match like that... i would just hold off and not run any of them...you can pick up W1's for pretty cheap online

http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu...roductID=15651

anyway...try to pick up a W1 somewhere its definitely worth it..peace

I was misunderstood, i was told that she had her system baught for her. maybe i was only told that cuz there is tension between the group i hang out with and her.

I dont care about matching, i really could give less then half a ****. Im not running them both, just one, and i dont feel the need to be like every other subwoofer(s) owner. If it thumps, its good enough for me.

OK, heres the deal, this is what you do. it is possible for the sub to be hitting the inside of the box, so, unscrew the sub from the face of the box. Measure the surface area of the sub (from one bubble ring to the other) and then measure the opening of the box. If the measurment of the sub is bigger, bore out the box accordingly. If it is not bigger, turn the sub inside out and test.

how about put them in there the right way because not all subs can be ran "freeair" like that...and stand a good possibility of messing something up

The sub doesn't know what side of it is enclosed so it just thinks it's in a box, not running freeair. If you do run the subs inverse like that you need to reverse the leads (reverse the positive and negative) as well or it will sound off. Other than looks all that reversing the subs will do is increase the effective enclosure size but the subs displacement. I have to agree though, running two different subs on the same amp is not a good idea, also if those subs are in a shared volume enclosure expect to damage one/both of them.

Only one is currently running right now, which is the JL. I know you shouldn't run two different wattages. As i said before, the bazooka is there to fill the opening in the box. It doesn't have any power going to it. Im going to buy all new subs and sell those individually.

How's the shipping? I was looking on there just a minute ago and your right, they have very good prices on some head units. I'm looking for a head unit with multiple RCA outputs. They have descent priced ones on there.

1- are both subs dvc 4 ohm subs?
2- when you invert a sub, you are increasing the displacement inside the box dramatically. did you reverse polariy of the speaker wire?

and you can definately blow subs with low power. it's called clipping ;)

yes and yes, i took care of the problem, after looking everything over, it was a part of the carpeting around the box that has come loose and was hitting the cone of the sub. All fixed now.

iduno what your talking about by my system being bought for me, because I work and pay for the things I have... I guess the post was edited by the time I saw it...
Second, spending your money on a sub box for JUST the JL might even sound better then having the bazooka and the jl... 2 12's arent always better then 1. I'd sell your bazooka sub and either build a box (its not hard at all, some screws, wood glue, mdf, and a saw)... or buy one. they're not too expensive.
