Twin Turbo WRX?? Even Possible??

This kid at my school claims that when he has enough money (wich will be never) he says he can twin turbo his wrx. I was like WTF??? I dont own a wrx so i wasnt going to say it is impossible but i find that really hard to believe.
Question: Is it possible to twin turbo a wrx? If so would it be wise??

I think twin turbo is pretty useless with a car that only has one exhaust manifold, it's good on v6's or v8's because they have more than one manifold to tap. It also works on rotory because they have one exhaust port per rotor. You'd have all sorts of spooling problems. But it can be done if you just wanna say I have twin turbo and you don't want to go fast. You could have a smaller turbine off the exhaust feeding into a bigger turbine which would go into the intake manifold.

So in short is it possible, yes. Will it be fast? maybe. How much will it cost? He'd better be able to afford 5 STi's....

sounds like a waste of money to only put down that much.

IMO it would only be worth it if you are going to run huge boost through the thing. Like MpowerKai said, use a smaller one to spool the bigger one. Even then it just helps with lag, no power increase. unlike the 3000gt what uses a turbo per 3 cylinders.

The legacy's came with a twin turbo in japan I believe with the 4 banger. Twin turbo is alot easier on scoobies since the have two cyls on each side, but there really is not much of a benifit other then to "say" its TT, unless you have a big/small sequential setup like they did from the factory..

Quote from the above article:

"The only time a twin turbo should be seriously considered is on V-6, I-6 and V-8 motors where it packages well and you can use two larger turbos. On 4 cylinders, consider a twin setup only for show purposes"

The problem with a TT setup on any 4cly Suby is the firing order. Subarus fire 1,3,2,4 so that means one side fires it's 2 cylinders then has to wait for the other side. This splits the exhaust up into "chunks" that isn't so great for spooling turbos as you want a smooth continuous flow of exhaust.

It's hard to extract all the energy out of the exhaust in the turbo when it hits the turbine in big pulses like that. 6 cylinder boxer engines are a different story. Big turbos are almost always much more efficient than 2 smaller ones too. Efficiencies don't start to plateau until up in the GT30R range. 2 GT30Rs aren't spooling on a 4 cyl either.

The only way I see a twin turbo doing any good in a wrx is if they swapped in the 6 cyl touareg motor in.!

I think you meant Tribeca. I doubt the VW engine would be a drop in.
