bad ac compressor?

coming home from work today, my ac compressor started kicking on and off at random. when it would, the belt would squeal. it would blow cold, hot, cold, hot, etc. it may just be a coencidence, but i recharged my ac today too. but even after doing that, i let the car run for a while to see what temp it was running at. (it went from 58 degrees to about 45) any ideas on what could be wrong? i haven't gotta clue about ac systems, i only know they're expensive to fix oh, and the car is officially out of warranty, 36179 miles.

Try taking it back to Subaru. If you are in good standing with a certain dealership, and have given them a lot of business, they may throw you a bone. It can't hurt.

If this plan fails then check around Nabisco for a used one.....I see people on there unloading them all of the time for reasonable prices.
