Buying Evo IX or 06 STI?
Just wandering, whats everyones choice if they were in my position? At the moment I could care less about modding it for the next 4 or 5 years. I just want something new and fun. I hope to have the lude gone by the end of June. And have a new car in 3 or 4 months. So I have some time for test drives and your opinion....so let me know.

i am a suby addict but the 9 is just too temping. I would get the 9 just cause of the extra power it has and the five speed. You should just go to both dealers and test drive each one. They are alike but you will like one more then the other

It will come down to personal preferrence. I am a die-hard mitsu fan. I like the evo cause it will be a lot faster than the STI right off the bat. And the motor is a lot easier to work on considering the spark plugs are right on top and the turbo is up front. The STI is a nice car in a subaru type of way. Some will say it is a lot more reliable and nicer to drive on a daily basis.

The EVO 9 is a better performing car in almost evry aspect, plus it will do 11's with a pipe and a reflash..The only plus side I see in the STI is it's slightly nicer looking dashboard, looks are up to you but I'm not a big fan of the 06's Sti at all..Plus the EVO had a bigger lineup of EVO's, I suggest the MR, it rides much smoother yet handles better, and had better gear ratio as well as improved shifter feel, plus lower center of gravity.. Or you coul go with the leather package, or get the RS which is the cheapest..You better act fast because they are running out of them, or you could wait for the IX MR "SE" edition which adds a few visual improvements inside and out and is a very limited production for only 500bux more..The EVO OWNS the STi this year no question..

Go for the EVO RS. I personally feel that its the best bang for the buck. I love my STi, but if i could have any other AWD car, it would be an RS. I personally like having a 5speed for some reason. Maybe because I dont like the gear ratio on the STi 6speed. Yes the STi 6-speed is a bulletproof tranny, but i would trade it for a 5speed that was just as tough in a heartbeat. I also personally like the bare-bones approach that the RS comes with. Crank windows, build your own stereo, gutted trunk, etc. Just my .02....good luck!

FYI the RS has NO sound deadening material..Ever drive a ITR??Also the STi gearing is significantly different (shorter) then the 6 speed MR..The 06 EVO have revised gearing very similar to 1-5 on the MR but without the 6th gear, before they changed it up the EVO would fall on it's face shifting into 5th..

Hmmmm, I didnt know about the absolute absence of sound deadning material. The_mike had an RS, I never really rode in it much, does it just suck a little or is it totally crappy? I just love how its a straight off the lot, no frills car. Its like going to a dealership and buying a gutted roadcourse car. I do like the RS, but dont know a ton about it. You got any other info on them?

As said above, Im not too crazy about the 06 STi styling either. I dont like the badging on the trunk and the tailights. The grill is still a sore spot with me too, although they do sell some nice exterior solutions to that. Overall its not too bad, just prefer the 04-05 styling.

I love the 9. Greatest test drive I've ever been on. Comfortable...INSANE aftermarket possibilites...spacious....kickass.
How much are you letting the lude go for??

You really do have to go drive them both to figure out which is best for you. I've taken them both for a drive and I would prefer the STI because I have a long commute (50 miles one way) and it's more comfortable. Also for me the Evo was a little too rough around the edges (too hardcore performance for a daily driver). Of course if I was looking for something fun that I wouldn't be commuting in I would choose the evo hands down. It's just not something you can really ask other people's opinion on because everyone has their own things they're looking for when choosing between them. Either way I think most people would agree you're choosing between the two best and the rest is just details.

I have the pleasure of driving all three very often. There’s my car (of course I drive that all the time,) then my friend “Philly Boy” and his highly modded WRX, and then I have a mechanic that owns an STi. For me, the STi has a far better dash board (more upscale) and is probably easier to live with day to day. In terms of driving feel, the STi feels more muscular with great low end and for some reason feels bigger also (the Evo is actually slightly larger.)
The Evo is a much sharper instrument. It feels like a race car vs. the STi’s slightly muscular feel. The car is set-up to race (you get that immediately after you begin to push it.) And of course if you plan on going balls to the wall, the Evo will take you much further. I’ve already surpassed my friends’ cars performance and I still have more run to press forward. ![]() But it really comes down to personal preference and driving style. Of course there are people in both camps the will say the Evo is the better car or the STi is the better car. I, on the other hand like them both differently, however, equally. I’ve said it in other “Evo or STi” comparisons – the Evo is more Ferrari like, and the Subaru is more Porsche like. That maybe the best way to describe them if you’ve never driven either car. Best option – test drive both, then make your decision. ![]() But I'll say this - now that I'm at this level with the Evo, if I had to do it all over again, I'd pick the Evo in a second. This thing is nuts. ![]()
