South Philly Racing

Just a notice to any of you guys that head down there. Recently the cop situation has been pretty bad and with the protestors down there every week im sure it hasnt helped matters. Anyway on wednesday night fox news aired a special on the philly street racing. In the report the police cheif said that they are trying to end the racing scene down there and said that many will be arrested if you are caught the the the known racing streets. So last night me and a friend hoped in his stock accord (just so we wouldnt have any problems with cops) and headed down just to see what was going on down there and to see what effect that news special had. We found that there were cops on every street that is raced frequently and saw many cars pulled over. We saw many police driving around there area (not including the ones sitting on the streets and the ones that had cars pulled over). We also saw that their were very few cars down there. So just a warning to everyone who goes down there to be careful, it looks like they are cracking down, well atleast for the time being.

This happens EVERY year at the beggining of summer. They will NEVER stop the races. It's been going on for over 30years. It's not just gonna end.

I'm not supporting the races (although you will see me there sometimes) but there not just gonna end because there are more cops. 2 years ago they blocked off full streets and towed everyones cars. That lasted for a month. Then the races were back in full swing. There is just too many people.

the police do what their chief says, the chief does that the government officials above him say, the government officials do what the citizens say because they want to be (re)elected.
what i'm saying is the police will more or less do whatever is required ot keep the citizens happy, and if the citizens are putting a lot of pressure on to try to stop the racing then the police will have to respond to it.
in the end its just a vicious cycle that goes up and down and up and down.
what would be great if there was an old airport somewhere in the philly area that the police supported and organize 'street style' drag racing on the weekends. something that was very inexpensive, or even free, and served to provide a safer environment for racers and keep innocent bystanders out of harms way. it works in other cities as a kind of tradeoff that it will exist if it does indeed keep most of the street racing away from the area.

that would be a killa idea...Cept we have a bunch of counsel around here that wont approve the idea because they have their head shoved so far up their ass. I mean that would even be a BETTER way for the city to make money...charge people a few bucks to run all they want..

the argument i hear is that street racers like the whole scene of street racing, they dont like the formalities of the track and they dont like the $15 cost or whatever it is.
so if you do a track at an old airstrip, you get a start and finish light, no times, just a really simple setup that still has a bit of a street feel. there would be an ambulance and tow truck on hand, and either police or other workers there keeping things organized and safe.
i'll see if i can find an article about it from another city. if anyone has any ideas on a location that would work for this then let me know, i was thinking of looking into it anyway.

Kind of off topic but the police were on hand at Atco yesterday spraying water in the water boxes wearing police clothes with Sony XploD hats..It was a CLASSIC scenario to say the least and they were sporting the jar head cuts, beer bellies, and speedlaced combat boots.. I'll try to get pics of them today..

It's because of the legal liability for the city. I wonder what Atco pays a year for liability insurance.....I bet everyone here would be shocked!

No thats why you make everyone sign a waiver stating that the city will not be held responsible for any incidents cause by the operator of the vehicle.

There is ways for people to get around that.

It's the same thing at skateparks, you are required to sighn a waiver to enter. But, when people get hurt, they still sue the park. If you have a good enough lawer you will win. This is why there is so little skateparks anymore.

i don't think the old airport idea would work. you are forgetting, what if somebody--

1. breaks and the car is immobile
2. oils down the lane
3. leaks stuff wherever
4. fights
5. drugs
6. etc...

it would never work. what needs to happen is drop a bomb on s. philly when the racers are down there- problem solved! no more street racing!

i think 95% of the people that go down there don't deserve to live, and should be killed execution style. pure scum, and bad stereotypes of many races. shootings, robberys, fights, accidents. why the HELL would the city of philadelphia want to support these pieces of ****. i'd like to personally go down and exterminate them, although the stupid laws won't allow me to.

I agree on part of that, didnt like two people from TST get their car broken into while down there? not everyone is scum or nething like that, but its deff a bad scenario

Because sleeprstyle never street races.

http://www.tristatetuners.com/forum/...t=14097&page=8

Sounds like your thinking about doing exactly what your so against.

While I've never been to the races in philly and probably never will...it will never go away. And yeah there are some ignorant people out there and can be dangerous as far as guns/roberys/Fights.

You honestly think the city is all for street racing? They realize its an issue and they realize it will never stop...Can they put a damper on it yes...stop it...No

Very True.

The croud at the races has gone down the ****ter in the last couple of years.

It used to be pretty mellow. It was mostly car people. People who who what engine was in EVERY one of the regular cars. People who knew the regualr flagger by name. And people who, for most of the part, knew how to drive their cars.

Most of the people down there are a bunch of retarted, bad driving, idiots now.
