Shifting Problems (honda)

I was driving down rt95 two days ago and it poped out of 5th gear and stuck into the neutral. It won't go into first second or fifth gear. I can move it up and down into 3rd and 4th. Clutch is fine still it takes off easily in 3rd or 4th. What problem do I have?

possible shift linkage problem, usually stuff is fine until they break.

Gotta be linkage related I'm thinking. Are these cable or a rod type linkage?

im thinking linkage too but not sure why it does 3rd and 4th and not the other which is making me think synchros.

what do you mean by not going into 1st, 2nd and 5th? can you put the shifter into that gear and it just pops back out or just wont go into that gear at all?

Linkage. Had this happen on my sunfire, it would go into and out of two gears but not the rest. The car had two cables. One was up an down and the other was left to right.

3rd and 4th is basically straight up and down so linkage wont effect engagment. 1st and 2nd needs to be brought to he left and 5th needs to move right...if linkage is off or out of adjustment would explain why there is no side to side movement to enable those gears. simple fix.

Beat me to it.

When you pull the shifter from side to side the linkage isn't twisting like it should. So either the bushing failed or the stabilizer broke.

With the car off you would still able to shift the trans with a clutch issue

Should come out of 3rd gear regardless of clutch working or not, you don't *need* a clutch to shift.

I really doubt the linkage is good, but since you say it is at this point you've either snapped a shift fork or you've destroyed the actual selector mechanism inside the transmission.
