What's involved with buying a car out of state?

Like the title says, anything special involved? Might be buying a car in Delware.

i bought a car from maryland, and didnt register the title transfer until pa... def go and get a temp reg. at a tags place. i ran into alot of problems , because the title was signed but the previous owner wasnt present.. it was a huge hassle. i think its like 35$ and then u have to pay the taxs and **** when u get back to pa and register it here.

Ok, so they gave you crap cause the previous owner wasn't present when you got back to PA? I guess I'd need to get the signing over of the title noterized. Guess I'll stop by an auto tags place and see what they say on the matter.

not sure about DE, but I know with a PA/NJ transaction the trouble is one requires insurance on a vehicle before registering the vehicle, and the other requires registration before insurance can be bought...

Not sure if you'll run into those problems with a DE transaction. Better off asking a tag place

if buying new, the dealing can sort out all the red tape. Theres not much for a new car.
If buying or selling a used, go to pa.gov.org (i think) and search around for the documents to sell or buy a car out of state. I sold one and purchased some from out of state before and everything went thru Harrisburg with no porblems, and i only had a Kansas title exchange paper and homemade letter about the sale.
It should not be that difficult and much more common that years ago because of ebay and other car sites selling alot of cars.

I bought the GSX from Northern VA. I went to the title/tags place handed them a Bill of Sale (to which the guy signed stating I bought the car for like $500) and you pay 6% sales tax on the vehicle -- unless you can print out the form from PENNDOT saying the vehicle was a gift.

Then you just pay the registration/plate/title fee I think all in all mine was around $250 or so.

Did you pay 6% sales tax on said vehicle?

It's usually around $60-70 JUST for a title transfer keeping the same license plate and notary fees.
