2g eclipse clutch chatter

Ok i posted in engine perfomance about this, but no one was answering & im in need of some help asap.
I believe i have clutch chatter, the car shakes violently when im letting off the clutch in reverse, it gets so bad that i have to put the clutch back in and roll back.
My car was going into gear great, never had any grinds or anything.
Now, it won't go into first from a dead stop or reverse, i have to almost wrestle it. Once i get moving, ther car goes into gear great with no problems.
it's also making a noise when the clutch is pushed down.
I pulled the trans and the flywheel is bent & it was wearing down the teeth on the starter.
What I don't understand is that, before i pulled the tranny i put a new drivers side axle & starter and it fixed the problem for a day, & then it started happening again.
I replaced all of the motor mounts already, too see if that was the problem.
The clutch was replaced in december by the previous owner with a brand new exedy stage one clutch
I ordered a new exedy stage 1 clutch kit and a fidanza light wheight fly wheel, do you think this will fix my problem? I just want to get some opinions before i go ahead and do this.
Also, could it be a internal problem with my transmission?
thanks guys !

Flywheel is bent? Did you make sure that the flywheel bolts weren't backing out? I guess not that it matters now since I'm assuming you removed it. It's unlikely that the problem is internal to the transmission. Only thing I can think of to cause a violent shaking is if a tooth was broken off the gear, and the teeth were skipping. Again though, highly unlikely. Once you replace all the clutch parts, you should be good. Also, if you have AWD, check the drive shaft carrier bearings. When they wear out, they allow the drive shaft to thump around causing a feeling much like clutch chatter.

Alright sounds good, thanks for the quick response. Another quick question, is the drivers side axle supposed to be bolted in somewhere? because when i took mine off, it wasn't bolted into anything & it just came out. My cars a 1998 eclipse gst

Drivers side axle is a straight shot from the trans to the spindle. Nothing holds it in per say aside from the limitation of its range of movement. Sorta like stacked cups. No way of getting the middle cup out without taking out either of the end cups.

Ok thanks a lot man! So im guessing the passenger side axle is the one that gets bolted?
I read something on here that says one of the axles (I forget which one) has a carrier bearing & its bolted to the block or something?
Sorry for all the questions, im just trying to understand my DSM, im very new to this.

The drivers side axle is the one with the carrier bearing, need to be careful with the axle if your removing it.

I'll second the post above mine, check your throw out bearing if your gonna yank the trans.

Wrong wrong wrong. Both sides are held in by a circlip at the end of the axle. There are seals to prevent any fluod from leaking. The chatter you have is from the clutch not fully disengaging. There are several reasons why. The pedal might be in need of adjusting, the pressure plate fins might have broken, the disc is worn, the master or slave cylinder might be bad, your throwout bearing might be bad.

On the GST, you wont have the carrier bearing on the axle. If you choose, you can swap the axle for one with a carrier to minimize torque steer.

Do you remember removing a 12mm bolt from the rear side of the trans when you pulled it? It should have been the only 12mm passing through the block and threading into the trans. Did the last guy re-installed the Block to Trans dowel pins? There should be 2 of them, sometimes they come off with the trans, other times they stick in the block...make sure you have them for reassembly.

the engine to trans bolts could be the issue too. but I think the throw out bearing cause of the noise and all. They can crush and prevent the diaphragm from fully operating. also 6puck clutch plates are known to chatter.. make sure ya get a good full circle clutch..
