Hello. This is kinda different but I'm posting a job oppurtunity on here just case any of you are interested. My friend is selling his Arnold Bread route located in the Harrisburg/Hershey area. For those of you who aren't familiar with the route business, you are required to buy the route/territory in which you deliver and service. I don't know what kind of price he's looking to get, but I own a Pepperidge Farm route and I payed $149,000 for mine. I would assume his is worth a similar price. He said he brings home around $1600 a week, which sounds about right to me. My route does pretty close to that as well and I'm in the same territory. However as a route owner, you also have to take into account your own expenses such as fuel, insurance, and the route payment (unlesss you buy the route without financing). Judging by my own experience, from the $1600 he does weekly, you would be looking at about $1000-$1200 per week once you include all your expenses. It's a great oppurtunity if you or someone you know is unemployed or is just looking for a better career. For me, I enjoy the freedom of working on my own and being my own boss, while also bringing home some decent money at the end of the week. sounds like a pretty good gig but who has 149k kicking around?

So, for most, they will have to take out a loan. if they even manage a normal interest rate......which in this economy is very tough.... you're looking at 3 yrs before you can even start making money.

All while assuming at least 1k a week.

Nobody has that kind of money...you take out a small business loan to pay for the route. For instance, I pay $325 a week or $1400 per month of my route payment. My typical income on an average week is $1400, so take away $325, fuel expense, insurance, and other small expense, I'm still left with about $700-$800 per week in my pocket. The normal loan plan is 10 years, so in 10 years I will have the loan payed off. Look at it this way: you're paying yourself. Except for what you pay in interest on the loan, you get all that money back ( and maybe even more) once you sell the route.

sounds interesting but i'll be honest i don't understand all of it. Do you schedule the deliveries? Do you try to find new clients to add deliveries to your route? or do you get a list of stops each day from the factory and you just drive to them?

I pick and choose which of my 13 accounts to service each day. I usually hit all of them 4 days a week, and sometimes even 5 days a week just to ensure proper service. Beings it's my route, I make ALL the decision regarding my route. Also, I pick up, deliver, stock the shelves, and remove all stale product from the stores. I can also add new accounts if I choose...I have added a new account actually within the last 2 months.

In that sale price, does he include the truck/van or whatever he uses to move the bread?

And these accounts are regulars? Its not like you have to constantly get new accounts right?

For instance, its like walmart would be asking that you deliever bread to them 4 times a week.

but then also, what pays for the actual product? Do you buy the products to sell them? Or, does the bread come from the factory and you distribute it?
