Another speed limit question

This probably sounds like a dumb question, but I've heard different answers to it before and I can never get a consensus.

In NJ (at least), you get normal speed limit signs that are square and white. Then you get those yellow speed signs (usually diamond shaped or sometimes square I think) that precede curves (bends) in the road. For these yellow ones, I've heard that they are just "suggested" speed limits for just that stretch of road that corresponds to the curve/bend.

So does that mean if I'm sticking to the normal speed limit (i.e. white sign), and keep that speed around the bend where a yellow sign is posted, that I'm okay? Can I get a speeding ticket for that?
