dash lights and rear parking lights keep going out!

the other night i was driving all of a sudden my dash lights went out and rear parking lights went out. i check the fuse and it was blown. put a new one in and it happened again.

so far i checked the wires behind the head unit and they are fine
i check the bulbs/sockets/wires for the lights in the back and they are fine

so now im stuck. its also weird that when i hit the brake all the lights come on. any suggestions of what to check? i need to drive my car at night. the wiring on the car is virgin so no one could have rigged it. thanks in advanced
