can i cop follow you for more then a mile then pull you over ?

alright heres the story....i was at a party in ewing....the cops surrounded the house...well they were just parked by the house...so me and my freind walk out and get into the car and start driving home...i notice one of the cops are following me...so i keep going straight down the road for bout a mile and a half....he still following me....im doing speed limit and everything...so i dont see nothing wrong...he pulls me over...and asked me for my insurance etc.....then he starts asking me where am i headed....and wat was going on at the party....so i have the registration and insurance but couldnt seem 2 find my license on me....he then tells me to step out the car....he tells me 2 put my hand on top of the car and searches me...then he tells me 2 walk back to his cop car....and he's like take a seat in the back and he shuts the door.....then starts asking me for my info and stuff.....so he lets me out and gave me a ticket for failure to show d.l and tells me that he could take me back 2 hq for not having any identification on me...so is there a way to fight the ticket or did i just land in a ditch?

yes he can follow you for as long as he wants. also you can go to court with ur license and see if the prosecutor will help reduce your ticket, who knows, its worth a shot.
