Exhaust Systems

I know in Md, they are illegal. I saw the law myself on a Md state website. And people on the MD forums have gotten tickets for their "street legal" exhaust systems.

But since my car is registered in PA with Pa plates, can they give me a ticket for it?

I know many people with exhaust systems in PA and NJ, but is it legal in PA or NJ? I am assuming it is legal because I have not heard of anyone getting in trouble for it.

You must abide by the state's laws in which you are entering.

For example: Radar detectors are illegal in VA but not DE, PA, MD, etc. If you are from DE and have a radar detector but are entering VA you still have to take it down/disable it. Catch my drift?

But I still want to know if Exhaust Systems are legal in Pa and NJ since that is probably where I will end up driving most of my time in the future.

As for the police radar. I have one built in from the dealer. It was a dealer option 11 years ago, when my car was born. There is no way to disable it without taking the front bumper off and cutting the wires.

As long as your car passes emissions and obeys any noise or nuisance codes then you should be fine, people put aftermarket exhaust systems on their cars everywhere.
