Really Amazing Chernobyl Documentary

Probably the best, most informative one I have seen to date. 1.5 hours long. When I found it I hit play and didn't stop watching!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yiCXb1Nhd1o

May be indicative to what Japan is/will face.

Chernobyl had complete melt-down, which is most extreme thing that can happen. The disaster in Japan is bad but not as bad.

You should check out a documentary from National Geographic about the wildlife at Chernobyl 19 years later. I think its available on netflix. Here is a link to the story.

Chernobyl and Fukushima are on par with one another, both with Level 7 severity levels. Regarding actual radiation released, they definitely are not the same. If I recall correctly, Fukushima released approx 10% of what Chernobyl released. Here's an excerpt from an article:

Quote:
Japan's nuclear safety commission has estimated that the Fukushima plant's reactors had released up to 10,000 terabecquerels of radioactive iodine-131 per hour into the air for several hours after they were damaged in the 11 March earthquake and tsunami. It said emissions since then had dropped to below one terabecquerel per hour, adding that it was examining the total amount of radioactive materials released. A terabecquerel equals a trillion becquerels, a measure for radiation emissions. The government says the Chernobyl incident released 5.2m terabecquerels into the air about 10 times that of the Fukushima plant.

Thank you for the link. That was very informative.

After reading about Japan's 6-9 month plan to secure the reactor yesterday, i am starting to realize that it is a scarey situation and very damaging to our world.

The only thing that comforts me is that the Fukishima reactors break down was caused by a natural disaster versus Chernobyl's being caused by human error and expirmentation.

Japan isn't even close to that. The dominant winds in Japan blew most of the radioactive dust out to sea.
