verizon vs cingular vs tmo (Barry chime in)

Going to college next year and my cell phone is about to expire. I currently have verizon, its decent it seems. I do enjoy the new 2way feature on the cingular, i had a nextel back in the day and hated it.

for college, best plans and best coverage/service... which should i get?

thanks.

tmobile i believe has the cheapest plans without all the hidden costs that some other companies have. they just did a report on one of the web pages about them. i have had tmobile for like 2 years never had a problem

Ok hope you don't mind me jumpin in here, I have sold/serviced phones for years. A few questions first and foremost.

1. Where are you planning to attend college?
2. What do you use your cell phone, mostly voice or data?
3. What type/brands of cell phones do you like?

Personally, I am a Nextel Technician right now, and I am a T-Mobile customer, I have been a TMobile customer for about 8 years since they were Omnipoint. They bar far have been the best carrier.

I will admit I had Cingular for about 2 months and their service is EXCEPTIONAL, and I do mean EXCEPTIONAL, I had service all over. The only reason I ditched them is I felt they were overpriced and there data plans were just not competitive or affordable versus TMOBILE.

As far as Verizon, I have never owned a Verizon phone due to the fact I don't like CDMA technology and I cant flip flop phones whenever I feel like it. Even though I know that CDMA technology is so old It has almost been perfected that is why Verizon claims to have the best Network in the US.

So when it all comes down to it, for me I say T-Mobile all the way...because regardless what service you get your always gonna get No Service somewhere or a dead spot or a fuzzy call...

I have had Verizon for some years now and i have no problems whatsoever with deadspots-dropped calls, etc. I have a full signal virtually everywhere i have taken it. They are kinda steap in price though. Its partly my fault though, cause i have a plan with way too many minutes. I dont think i have ever reached my full amount of minutes yet. Just my .02. I dig Verizon.

Stealth thanks very much.

College= cornell, richmond, ucon, 'cuse .. maybe a few others.
sorry i am no guru, when you say data or voice, i do about 1500 text messages a month, and 1500 minutes a month. I dont use calendars or any of that crap, dont use it like a palm pilot. Just need awesome coverage. Price isn't an issue really. I love walkie talkie on nextel, just their service is awful! I am really leaning towards cingular. I heard they will have even better coverage soon. Thanks

Yea i just switched to tmobile from nextel and i like tmobile much better. I wanted to get the sidekick but got the razr instead which i kinda regret. But I heard you cant send picture messages with the sidekick which i love doing haha. But i definitely recomend tmobile. My gf has cingular and something weird was going on, i would have to call her like 5 times before it would actually ring and go thru to her.

I use Tmobile and hardley have any coverage problems with it but suposedely they have really fallen behind coverage wise versus other companies. They have awesome prices/customer service though. Verizon i hear customer service sucks but they get better coverage due to the technology they use. Cingular on the other hand has better coverage then T mobile but is more expensive. It all depends what your looking for if your college is in the middle of the city dont be worried about coverage look for price. What I would do is call up each servidce provider asking them for coverage maps for the town where your college is in.

If you have any more questions just PM me. I know endless amounts of useless information.
