I know this isn't ask a lawyer but being familiar with this situation I figured it wouldent hurt to ask.

While driving home from work two days ago a drunk driver struck my car while on a state highway. The driver then attempted to flee the scene and I followed. I called 911, followed the other driver for 15 minutes, and then a state troopers pulled her over. The officer said I could go home and he would call me the next day regarding her info.

Yesterday I received the call and he informed me her blood is being tested and she is under suspicion of a DUI. He said if it comes back positive and she is charged with a DUI that I'll have to attend her court hearings since I was their probable cause for pulling her over.

Long story short...assuming I have to attend numerous court hearings for this....is it normal to ask the Judge for restitution of lost wages? It's ridiculous that I'll have to take vacation days or unpaid days to convict this lady and pay for it out of my own pocket...but I definitely want to help in anyway I can to convict her for putting my life and others in danger.

Any advice / help you can give would be great...thanks!

you should only have to go to one hearing

are you asking if the court will pay you?

Not exactlly. I'm asking if the judge will make her responsible for reimbursing me for lost wages for having to attend her conviction....if she is convicted. Obviously you can't just not show up and companies arn't going to pay you to go to court....so who foots the bill? I have absolutely no idea how any of this works.

I'm glad to hear it should only be one day....finally some good news! haha

The judge will not do anything about you getting money from her, you can sue her for it should you feel the need

That's ridiculous. So my choices are to take a vacation day to still get paid, sue her over $200-300 bucks, or go to work, skip court, and get arrested.

Whose getting punished here?

None of that is directed at you btw. Just a very frustrating experience.
