Rollery Hockey: Anybody play? Anybody want to play?

Come to Upper Darby.

Just dusted off and serviced the bearings on my old Bauer H3's (almost as old as some TST members. lmao!). Heading to Max's Hockey Shed in H-town to get some new wheels and a stick. My buddies and I are going to start playing again, mainly at the Observatory Field in UD.

Anybody else know of any good outdoor rinks in the area (Delaware County)?

"Good outdoor rinks" are tough to find in the area. Observatory, I havent played since I moved outta Ud 13 years ago, so I duno how that is anymore. I know a guy who used to play there all the time a few years back, but duno how often he goes out anymore. Theres a decent one off 23 down by St. Joes I used to practice on when I went to school there, cant think of the name though. Marple isn't far, and they have tons of leagues, if you're looking for a league from novice to advanced, its a good place to check out. I havent played there since college, but as far as I know they usually keep their rinks in decent shape.
I used to play with a guy that works at Max's, its a good place to get equipment in the area, its small but they pretty much know their ****.

I havent played here since 2005ish, just recently redone. It was a great place to practice on your own a few years ago, there was never really anyone there. May not be the best place to get a Delco pickup game goin, but it was my favorite outdoor surface to practice on(curious to see the new finish though).

haha, the guy at Max's kept making fun of me when I asked for a replacement stopper for my blades and a butt-end for my stick... then he was talking about how roller hockey "isnt real hockey"... I was about 5 seconds from walking out and going to Modell's. lol. dude needs to learn some customer service/appreciation. Incidentally, he mentioned the Belmont Hills rink but didn't know exactly where it was located. I just happened to stop by my buddies house in Belmont hills later that nite and he told me its right down the street from him. So I will definitely be checking it out soon. Looks awesome in the pics! [I go to St. Joes for Grad School too btw]

We played (or actually just futzed around) at the OBservatory rink yesterday. Its still in pretty good shape, could use a re-surface but hey what asphalt surface in Delco couldn't? Some younger teengage kids had mad numbers up there, two goalies and enough for a full 5 on 5 game w/ subsitutes, but they decided to split into two half-court games (?)

haha, I'm pretty sure my feet have grown a size since I bought my Bauer H3s probably 15 years ago. lol. They were a bit tight. But I always liked my boots tight for support. U just have to keep moving and not stand still on them too long. I'm just happy to be playing at all, I had a couple pretty bad herniated disc ruptures back in october and was worried i could never play sports again.

Not playing ice hockey will be one of the biggest regrets i ever have. I just never got the gusto to play for the Haverford Hawks, and my high school did not have a team --- until like 3 years after i graduated of course. Always played roller hockey though and I think i would have been pretty good on ice too. now i will just have to live vicariously by beating up on all the fast little kids i play against. lol

Love roller hockey, played for almost 10 years then stopped when YMCA leagues in my area fell apart. I have some brand new missions I only wore like twice, I need to get back into the swing of it but I'm definately down to get some tst pick up games going

I need to get my Missions more comfortable...last time I wore them, my feet hurt for days! Any ideas here?

But yeah I play. I started when I was 7, playing goalie and played until I turned 16. Im one of the few people I know that plays goalie on skates. But Ive decided to change up and ditch the Goalie pads. I need to get these skates comfortable so I can practice skating.

I would have made fun of you for asking for a stopper to play roller hockey. Roller hockey skates have not had stoppers for at least 10 years.

Also something for the butt end of your stick? Its called hockey tape.

I think he means an actual butt end. Not tape or tacki-mac

Tape is inferior. Shops love to sell it because its cheap and wears out. I bought some and its already unfurling. I may be 30, but I clearly remember buying a stick (probably from the same shop) when I was a teenager and it CAME WITH a rubber butt end. It was fitted pretty well, but I taped around it as well for extra grip. Its a similar concept to having the flange at the end of a baseball bat -- but you don't see any baseball balls with no flange and just tape on the grips right? lol.

As far as a stopper, I don't have to prove how macho I am by not having a stopper on my skates. Thats just as retarded as saying "real men downshift to slow their car down." -- Brakes are meant to stop the car. Stoppers are meant to slow you down on skates. I don't use then every single effing time I'm going down the rink, but there are certain situations where you want to be able to slow your forward momentum before attempting to turn, for example when you are heading into a chain-link fence at 20mph. At least if you are somewhat fast skater like I am. lol.

And you can make fun all you want. But don't be surprised when u get a shot to the jaw, or I decide to leave your store and go to Modell's Sporting Goods. I didn't make fun of his ugly face or stupid name? :]
