What to do (Living situation). Mods can close
Background Im 20 years old,I'm a service adviser (The people you love to yell at over the counter),and a full time student. I currently live at home with my dad and stepmom after living at college for two years. I didn't fair too well with class my freshman year and ended up loosing my scholarship to the school. My biological mother works at a county college so I go there for free currently. My parents are divorced and have been my whole life basically. (I lived between florida and jersey most of my life). My mother is currently remarried and lives a few blocks away now. Situation So feeling like im in a rut and life has become the same old with nothing to do,an opportunity sorta fell into my lap. My sister's boyfriend(basically her husband) got offered a job at a major corporation who does basically what W.B. Mason does but 100x bigger. The job is in san antonio, Texas and hes basically got the job (his father started there and the guy hiring him was hired his dad and already told him he is hiring him.) So as a joke I said make room for me im coming with you guys,to which they said okay. Having dinner with my parents tonight I told them what i said and they said why dont you go? They would help with money but go move with them to texas. I do have a good amount of family there who would be able to help me get oriented, I could finish school there, and just try and start a new page in my book. whats going on in my head My mom and stepdad are getting a divorce(I don't really know why but shes like having a midlife crisis) which would leave a custody battle over my younger sister and my 5 year old brother. Growing up with the court system as a normal thing and having your parents argue and bad mouth each other was a terrible way to grow up,especially living as sometimes as an only child, it gets hard. Without my older sister there most of the time i wouldn't know what to do sometimes but she was always there to pull me back up off the ground. I want to be able to be there for my younger siblings, especially my brother. I've always wanted a brother my whole life and now that I have one it breaks my heart every time i have to leave him. On top of that I have two really close friends it would be hard to leave. One is my female best friend, she got diagnosed with cancer a few months ago and I'm here for her even though she lives in manhattan while shes at school. Shes lived across from me and been through everything with me in life. We are eachother's support beams outside of the direct family. The other is my guy bestfriend, hes actually on this site and will prolly make fun of me for acting like a fag. We've been friends since we were 5 years old,and although we semi-lost communication for a year or so we still remain close. We had a mutual best friend between us and he was killed in a car accident almost 3 years ago so we've had strong bond since then. TL;DR I have the opportunity to move to texas to start a new life but i would have to leave so much behind,i dont know what to do.

They want me to go with them if possible when they fly out there soon to talk to his basically new boss and sign the contracts and stuff. I guess I'm just afraid of such a large change.

i moved across the country and left numerous close friends and family back home. it's a tough thing to do, but i look at it as a personal endeavor that was necessary. i finished up my education and was ready to live life. we have different situations obviously, but moving away in general.. it's all relative. it's hard for me to watch my little niece and nephew grow up through my sister's facebook, but it's a sacrifice i took to start a new chapter in life. if you desperately need a change of scenery or want something fresh.. then moving to somewhere new, cool and interesting may be right up your alley.

Do it man. You're young and now is the time to make changes. When you have the time and ability to do so without messing **** up for yourself. Your friends and family will still be here when you have time to come back and visit. And when you're ballet status someday you can fly everyone out to you and throw a party lol.
But in all seriousness. Your family is your family. They will be there whether you're 10 miles or 10000 miles away. Same goes for friends. Especially your good ones.

Doug you just kind of made everything feel like 50% better. I do really want a change of scenery. I'm tired of the same old around town with the same people doing nothing. The same old drama of he said she said its all old.

it is a big ordeal to up and move.. take some time and plan it.. mark the pros and cons. make sure all of your numbers make sense, then make a decision. and what dpan said is right, your friends and family are your friends and family for a reason, they will support you and want you to be happy and explore new things and places that come along in life.
edit: it's also a blast meeting and finding new friends in a new area. |

Go for it, dude. You can always come home if it doesn't pan out, but at least you can say you tried, nah mean?

Stick together with your siblings but damn Texas is so lax on car laws lol. For real though, it sounds like your brother and sister could use a big brother to be by their side if your mom and stepdad split up.
